The last several hours had been a life-or-death chase between Zelda and I, and the draconfied Demon King. The size difference between the two dragons frightened me, Ganondorf being substantially larger; at least ten times. Zelda looked so fragile in comparison as we raced through the open sky. Zelda swerved right suddenly, nearly throwing me from the top of her head. I caught one of the prongs of her fluorescent horns just in time. “Sorry,” she echoed in shame. “No worries,” I said through gritted teeth, hoisting myself over the branch-like horns whilst fighting gravity. “He’s catching up,” Zelda spoke, and by the tone of her voice, I could see the nervous look on her face, easily compiled from the dozens of memories we shared. “I won’t let him hurt you,” I said sternly, regaining my balance. She laughed, a hint of unease in her voice. “Oh, Link, I’d love to see him try.” A large bellow rang out, not far behind us. I stole a glance back to see the malevolent beast growing ever nearer, its eyes filled to the brim with fury. I didn’t dare think about what might happen when that fury began to overflow. “Do you have a plan?” I asked, raising my hand to the hilt of the Master Sword. “I’m still working out the details,” Zelda responded. “Why do you ask?” “Will whatever you have right now work?” I felt the Light Dragon growl beneath my feet, the rumble resonating through my bones as the red-and-black blur sped through my field of vision. Zelda slowed down, and I gripped her horns again for support. “A little warning would have been great, Link.” My stomach turned in shame when I heard her tone of disappointment, mixed with what was undoubtedly fear. “Sorry.” Ganondorf had us without anywhere to run—or, in this case, fly. His long body assembled in coils, and at this point, the size difference between the two dragons was immeasurable. Next to this serpent, Zelda was like that of an earthworm. My heart rate escalated greatly. “Whatever form of a plan you have, I’m going to need it now.” “Do you see those three red bulges?” I ran my eyes along the body of the beast, noticing the three glowing lumps. “Ganondorf's power seems to build up in those areas,” Zelda explained. “Release the pressure in those areas and we'll regroup. I'll distract him.” “Be careful,” I warned. “I will,” she replied, her voice softening, “I promise.” The beast continued to study us. “Oh, and also,” Zelda added, another hint of worry creeping into her voice, “don’t spend too much time there. The gloom…I don’t want it taking more than it did last time.” “I’ll be fine,” I said. “Do you promise?” “Yes. Have I ever broken a promise to you?” “...No.” “Exactly,” I reassured. Ganondorf’s size seemed to grow even more immense every time I looked at him. I reached up to draw the Master Sword from its sheath, and it seemed to sing as its blade sliced through the air in front of me. The faint glow flickered to life—a light I was so accustomed to by now. The colossal beast loomed over us. A growl began to resound in his throat, shortly followed by a large bellow. It was deep and deafening and sent tremors through my bones. “Link?” Zelda’s voice rang faintly. I sensed a tremble and could clearly picture her lips quivering. “Yes?” I was careful with my response, keeping my eyes locked on the foe in front of us. “I’m scared.” My heart ached for her. So much I longed to t0uch her, to see her, to tell her face to face that everything would be alright. But, as I stood, facing the monstrosity from which was born of pure evil, I was finding it hard to feel true, genuine hope. ଘ(´꒳`)°* ੈ‧₊˚ *ᵍᵃˢᵖ* ᶜᵒⁿᵗⁱⁿᵘᵉᵈ ᵇᵉˡᵒʷ! ᶜʰᵉᶜᵏ ⁱᵗ ᵒᵘᵗ!

I landed, feeling the effect of the gloom take hold of me in an instant in an attempt to hold me down. I resisted, summoning my strength, and used the sacred sword in my hand to slice through the rough skin of the Demon Dragon. Once the deed was done, I took out the paraglider again, ascending into the sky above. The bulge exploded, gloom bursting from the wound. I whipped my head around in a desperate search for the Light Dragon, my eyes moving frantically like darts. I heard a roar from the east, and Ganondorf suddenly darted in that direction. Taking advantage of the opening in hand, I drew my bow, nocking an arrow on the bowstring. Time seemed to slow as I drew back the arrow, bringing it almost to my ear and closing my right eye before releasing it. The arrow flew gracefully, landing precisely where I’d wanted it to. Gloom spewed from the small wound, and the pressure caused the patch of skin to erupt. I repeated this same process for the third target. I let the updraft carry me higher so I could see where to regroup with Zelda. My eyes continued to scan the sky in a desperate search for the familiar golden glow of the Light Dragon. A high-pitched cry pierced the sky. The roar wasn’t deep, nor fearsome. Less than a roar, it sounded like a soft whimper or wince. “Zelda?!” I called instinctively. “Over here,” there was pain in her voice. I craned my neck around in search of her, and I discovered the reason I couldn’t find her golden light in the first place. The Light Dragon no longer glowed with the faint light she had previously. Zelda’s light had dimmed extensively, and she was covered in wounds and, in some places, gloom. Her blood was unmistakable upon her once pure, porcelain scales. “Oh my Hylia,” I murmured, and I brought the paraglider in and to a hover at her side. I saw the cuts and wounds more closely now, and anger boiled inside me. “I’m fine,” Zelda protested against my worry, though the pain was audible in her tone. “I don’t feel a thing.” “I’ll k*ll him,” I said through clenched teeth, cursing. “That was the goal, wasn’t it?” Zelda questioned. She moved on from the topic, gesturing with her head to the Demon Dragon’s head as he flew at us. “Get to his Secret Stone.” I nodded. “Link,” Zelda added just before I was about to fly away. I looked in her direction. The Light Dragon’s eyes were filled with fear, its pupils small. “Don’t die.” I nodded, giving her a small grin, and brought the paraglider close to the Demon Dragon’s head, finding the beast’s blind spot. My feet collided with the rough, filthy–red scales of the creature. Unlike the Light Dragon’s almost soft scales, these ones were rough and jagged, like a dirty knife. Ganondorf must have realized where I was, and he began to rear his head violently. I held onto the grooves in the Secret Stone, which made for excellent handholds, and withdrew the Master Sword, glowing brighter than ever, comparable to the sun. I felt unimaginable power flow through me. The corners of my mouth began to twitch, and it took me a moment before I realized I was smiling. This was going to be fun. All those years of chaos would never be repeated. My revenge was finally here. I could take the life of the one reason for all of my pain and suffering over the last hundred years without a moment to look back on any of it, because vengeance was rightfully mine. All those years of anger, and worry, all of the distraught and despair, would at last be accounted for. My heart stopped for a moment. Time seemed to slow. This was not me speaking. Who was I to take the life of another? Wouldn’t that make me the same as Ganondorf? A villain, a menace? No—this could not be right. I was the wielder of the sacred blade, blessed by the Goddess herself. This was my destiny, my fate even. I should not take this moment as one in which I should feel accomplishment or pride in myself. That was selfish. This is not someone of whom the sword itself would have chosen. I froze in hesitation. Who was I? I did not know anymore. ☾ ──────── ➷ ───────» ✧ /!\ P0L1CY ᵐʸ ʷʳⁱᵗⁱⁿᵍ ⁱˢ ⁿᵒᵗ ᵗᵒ ᵇᵉ ᵘˢᵉᵈ ᵒʳ ˢᵗᵒˡᵉⁿ ᵇʸ ᵃⁿʸᵒⁿᵉ ʷⁱᵗʰᵒᵘᵗ ᵖᵉʳᵐⁱˢˢⁱᵒⁿ. ⁱᶠ ᴵ ᶠⁱⁿᵈ ᵗʰᵃᵗ ᵃⁿʸᵒⁿᵉ ᵃᵗ ᵃˡˡ ʰᵃˢ ᵇᵉᵉⁿ ᵘˢⁱⁿᵍ ᵐʸ ʷʳⁱᵗⁱⁿᵍ ⁱⁿ ᵃⁿʸʷᵃʸ ʷⁱᵗʰᵒᵘᵗ ᵖʳᵒᵖᵉʳ ᶜʳᵉᵈⁱᵗ, ᴵ ʷⁱˡˡ ⁿᵒᵗ ʰᵉˢⁱᵗᵃᵗᵉ ᵗᵒ ʳᵉᵖᵒʳᵗ ʸᵒᵘ. ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏˢ ᶠᵒʳ ᵘⁿᵈᵉʳˢᵗᵃⁿᵈⁱⁿᵍ! ✉ credits┇ ₍ᐢ⑅ ̥ ̮ ̥ᐢ₎ music ☁ nintendo; @Zelda_Of_Hyrule descr ☁ me, @--peace- thumb ☁ me; art found online ☾ ──────── ➷ ───────» ✧ ⌗ ☄ tags┇ignore ༘° #sneakyWulf2811 #tloz #the #legend #of #zelda #fanfic #fanfiction #chapter #68 #link #zelink #breath #of #the #wild #tears #of #the #kingdom ᴀʟʟ ᴇʟᴇᴍᴇɴᴛꜱ ʙᴇʟᴏɴɢ ᴛᴏ ɴɪɴᴛᴇɴᴅᴏ.
