"Let's Go Back to Where We Belong" Let’s go back to where we belong Let’s walk along the shore And read between the white lines Of the waves Let’s pinky promise that Yes, they are telling us something Let’s use the whale song As our platonic vows Let’s turn around and see The footsteps we’ve left behind Let’s hold our existence And pretend it is tangible Say our lives were sand castles And the ocean was god Say we crumbled next to each other Peacefully; inevitably Say we are a sand kingdom And we’ll never be alone Let yourself free fall in the moss Let yourself sink into the foliage Still your trembling rabbit heart; You’ve made it all the way here Dearest, I know It is scary to run and to know where to go, But it’s really scarier to hide How many times Have I made the girl in the mirror cry? Let’s trace the constellations With fingers shiny with dew Let’s soak our backs on the wet grass And admit aloud all the lies We’ve told ourselves before Let’s double exhale the hopelessness We somehow let ourselves believe Let’s laugh at how I’m too scared To ask to hold your hand Let’s sleep in the fragility of tomorrow Let’s blow bubbles and dream Let’s walk and frolic and flee Let’s cling to someone’s shirt front And have the bravery to ask them to stay, Let’s sway like a jellyfish alone Let’s breathe and struggle to breathe And scream a question Without expecting an answer, Let’s curl up and lose consciousness In the blanket of seafoam Let’s kiss hard and soft and powerfully Let’s make ourselves (un)known Let yourself live meaninglessly. Let yourself inhale the tangling of bodies And drink in the flavor of every spark, Every drizzle of unexpected heat Let yourself go within it Let yourself consider that the point of existence Is not some grand, woven purpose But existence itself– What if you are the meaning? (Let’s embrace the meaning tenderly Let’s promise not to let it go out.)
