DIZ’S ORIGIN STORY (written by @DisneyNerd26) Part 2: Seeing Stars (Music: Unsteady - XAmbassadors) Gosalyn’s clicking on the circuit’s controls suddenly stopped, and she drew a sharp breath. “Gos?” Huey asked, walking closer. She had stopped on a dimension, the scan for Dr. Waddlemeyer was loading a while instead of just popping up with an X. “Ohh argh.” Louie grunted, looking at the creatures on screen. “Fur-less, feather-less, fleshy creatures. So weird.” The rest of the group mumbled their agreement. A quiet chime suddenly rung out, and tears welled up at Gosalyn’s warm green eyes. “I found him.” She choked out, turning to look at her friends. “He’s there!” Her voice rose to an excited scream as she tackle hugged the triplets, and everyone in the facility began cheering. “HE’S IN THAT DIMENSION!” She swiftly typed up a summons, and watched the portal anxiously, reaching out to clutch Dewey’s hand. “Why is it taking so long?” Webby McDuck, (Scrooge’s teenage daughter) asked quietly as she walked up. “Remember how we were just slightly different than we are now, in our other dimensional forms? We still had to morph back into who we were in this dimension, but we were able to come back fast. He has to metamorphose back into his form for this dimension, and obviously it’s taking a while. His form in that dimension must be radically different from his form here.” Huey explained, setting his hand on Gosalyn’s shoulder. Suddenly a massive gust of wind began pulling them towards the portal, and Scrooge’s phone began to chime wildly with notifications and calls. “No! I thought it was stable!” Gosalyn cried, spinning back towards the controls. “It should have been! But we obviously didn’t account for it being such an effort for yer grandfather to morph back.” Scrooge exclaimed, meeting Gosalyn’s eyes. “I might be able to speed it up.” Huey said confidently, slowly walking up to the controls against the pull of the wind and rapidly typing. He slapped the summons button again, turning to look at the portal. Red steam began billowing out of it, filling the room, and a large white duck shot out of the haze, landing on his stomach in front of them. “Grandpa!” Gosalyn cried, and Huey grinned, leaning back on the table proudly. There was suddenly a loud beeping sound, and Huey spun back towards the controls. His eyes widened at the danger alerts popping up all over the screen. “We need to take cover, now!” He screeched, and immediately the ducks scattered. Gosalyn grabbed her grandpa by the wrist, pulling him behind a metal safety wall nearby. Scrooge grabbed hold of Webby and Louie, who in turn grabbed Huey and Dewey, and they all ran like mad for the farthest wall of the room, diving behind a pile of crates. There was an enormous explosion, rocking them to their cores, shattering all the windows in the building, catching the machine on fire and filling the room with smoke. “Go! We have to get out!” Scrooge shouted, shoving his way up out of the crates that had fallen on them and pulling Webby up after him. “Run!” Louie screeched, bursting out and running for the front door, pulling Huey and Dewey behind him. As they ran out, Gosalyn, and her Grandpa were doing the same. It wasn’t until they were out in the light that Dr. Waddlemeyer’s lips began to form words. “It’s so good to see you Gosalyn dear.” He croaked, holding out his arms for her to embrace him. “You’ve grown so much.” “Welcome home Dr. Waddlemeyer.” Scrooge grinned, offering the man his hand to shake. “The emergency services are on the way!” Webby exclaimed, phone pressed to her ear. Suddenly, Huey heard frenzied coughing coming from the smoking building.
“Somebody’s still in there!” He cried, looking back at the others. “I’ll go in!” Scrooge immediately volunteered, but as he went to step forward his back cracked loudly and he let out a pained grunt. “This back of mine!” Huey looked at his brothers, then at his uncle and cousin, and with a firm, but terrified nod, he turned and ran into the building, ignoring the panicked shouting behind him. “Huey, I’m behind you!” Dewey’s voice echoed around him, and he felt his brother’s hand grab his own. “And I’m behind both of you!” Louie added, and Huey felt him join the chain. “Hello?! (Coughs) Can you hear me?! (Cough-) Talk so I can find you!” Huey shouted, choking on the thick black smoke. Huey heard a whimper to his left, and turned, squinting his watering eyes. Finally he spotted a figure through the smoke, and ran to its side, dragging his brothers along. He realized it was a teenage female duck, her chest heaving with every breath. He huffed, scooping up her limp body in his arms and running for the light of the exit through the smoke and flames. He felt the sunlight hit his face as he bursted out, gasping raggedly for air. He could hear his brothers’ breathing behind him and he exhaled sharply. They’re safe. “Whoa!” Webby’s eyes went wide at the girl in Huey’s arms. “Look at you, Superman!” Huey chuckled breathlessly and shrugged, then looked down at the girl. Her pale white feathers were ruffled and charred, dark brown hair feathers tangled and sticking up in all directions. She was bruised, and her breaths were scratchy and labored, but overall she seemed okay, especially for someone who had been completely exposed to such a large explosion. Her light blue eyes suddenly squinted open, and Huey met them. “I must be dreaming.” She whispered, weakly shaking her head. “A lucid dream… Hey Huey.” “How does she know you?” Webby gasped as Huey stared at the girl with surprise. “From DuckTales, Webby.” The girl coughed, and the whole group crowded around as Huey eased her to the ground. It suddenly hit him. “The Solgeo’s Circuit theory is that fictional works open portals to other dimensions, right? We must be the characters of a fictional work in her dimension called DuckTales.” Huey explained, and the girl nodded. “I’ve heard of that theory. On this show, actually. I can’t believe my subconscious remembered so much from this show to make up something so elaborate and logical like this!” She muttered woozily, looking around at the group. “Her dimension?” Dewey asked, looking between the strange girl and his brother.“Dewey, I think she’s one of those fleshy creatures.” Huey clarified, then winced, looking at the duck in his arms. “No offense.” “None taken.” She wheezed, smiling at him softly. “Human, actually. Not that it really matters. You guys see me as another duck?” They all nodded and she smiled wistfully. “Man, I wish I could see myself. Best lucid dream I’ve ever had. Even if it’s a short one…” The emergency vehicles suddenly pulled up and she let out a deep sigh, going limp in Huey’s arms as her eyes closed again. “Hello? Hello?!” Louie yelped and several nurses ran over, taking her from Huey’s arms. “Uncle Scrooge, if that human girl wakes up and realizes she’s not dreaming, she’ll freak out and they’ll think she’s insane! Who knows how the doctors will react! We have to get them to let us take her home somehow.” Louie pleaded quietly, and Scrooge nodded. “You’ve got an idea then lad?” He asked, and Louie nodded with a smile. “Just follow my lead.” He whispered to the group. “Oh, is our sister okay?!” He let out a wail, running after the nurses, dragging his brothers along. “Please let her be okay!” Dewey whimpered, tears welling in his eyes. Huey puffed out his bottom lip and frantically fanned at his eyes, coughing. “Oh! This is you boys’ sister?” A nurse asked, looking between them and the girl. “Oh yes Ma’am! She’s our stepsister!” Louie whimpered, knowing it would explain the lack of familial resemblance. “Well, let us finish checking her over, and then if you could get another family member to vouch for you, I’ll release her to you guys.” Another nurse said, shutting the doors. “ Uncle Scrooge! We need you to vouch for us that the girl is really our stepsister.” Dewey ran over to Scrooge, winking at him. Scrooge smiled and shook his head, following Dewey back over. “Hello Mr. McDuck! These are your nephews?” One of the nurses asked as she opened the doors. “Can you confirm identity of the girl?” Another nurse asked. Without so much as blinking, Scrooge listed off information, and within the hour the girl was loaded comfortably into their cargo plane to fly home, Dewey (a newly licensed pilot) behind the controls. “Alright, Miss Human, Let’s get you home.” Dewey chuckled…
