Yes this cameo is shamelessly derivative of FMA please do not spoil it for me I’m still in the middle of watching FMAB. --{}CAMEO FORM{}-- Name: Elric Solaris Age: 16 Gender: Male Height: 5’3” Mane: Whitemane Birth Magic: Elric has the ability to create whatever he wants using his own energy. He usually uses his power to create his missing arm, but he is limited to creating one object at a time. Because of this, if he needs to create something, he’ll usually transform his arm to be like the thing he needs as it is more convenient for him. Because the things he creates are made of energy, they are pure light and will hurt your eyes if you look at them for too long. Also because of his energy based powers, using his powers often makes him hungry. If he over uses his powers consistently, he’ll become lethargic, grumpy, and will be more susceptible to illness. At its worst, he’ll pass out, and often won’t be able to use his powers for days afterwards. Profession: Traveling Mechanic/Engineer/Builder of anything that will get him fed. Backstory: Elric never knew who his parents were— his earliest memories are of being a starving orphan, living on the streets. As far as he knows, he was born without an arm, and as no one was looking out for him, having both his arms was more of a necessity than a convenience. When Elric was very young, he stole to survive. But the town he lived in was quite poor, and though he lived alone his whole life, he began to feel a kinship with the residents and felt guilty for thieving. He realized there were more honest ways to live, and around the age of eleven, he began doing odd jobs in exchange for food and shelter. He relied heavily on his powers, which took a toll on his health. The strain was so bad that it reduced his growth (which is why he is so short for a male Aetyrim.) It also affected his eyesight, as he was constantly staring at the bright magical objects and his own arm. The situation eventually became unsustainable, as his eyesight went so bad that he could no longer work. Out of kindness and gratitude, the people of his town took care of him despite the fact that he was no longer able to repay them. The damage to Elric’s eyesight was deemed irreparable— until one day, a stranger passed through town. A black mane, of which were all but unknown in the town where Elric lived. She introduced herself as Constantine, calling herself a wandering tinkerer. Taking pity upon the blind orphan, she created a pair of glasses that restored Elric’s ability to see. Elric became inspired by her unusual talents. Abilities that helped people and could unlock new opportunities, without needing magic. Elric requested to study under the stranger as an apprentice, and Constantine, who had grown a soft spot for the young boy, obliged. She created gear and clothing for Elric befitting of the craft he was about to pursue, including a sleeve that prevented the light of Elric’s arm from sight, and goggles recycled from the glasses she had made for him. And once she left town, Elric went off with her. Constantine kept him under his wing as she travelled and worked, and helping him to master his craft. They often hunted and foraged for their food, gathered materials from caves and trash, and when traveling between villages, they camped under the stars. Elric once asked Constantine why they worked for free, and only went to impoverished towns on the outskirts of Aetyria, instead of any of the towns that were closer to the capital, or even the capital itself. Surely there were more lucrative opportunities there, as the residents were wealthier. His teacher did not hide the awful truth from him. Most everyone who was wealthy was bound to be a black mane. They would look down on him— and if they did not belittle him, it would surely be to exploit his powers, which his teacher assured him were more powerful than he thought. These people— the black manes— were only so wealthy because of the oppression thrived off of anyways. They didn’t need help, and so it was better to help those in the towns that they did travel too— people who genuinely benefited off of and appreciated their work.+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Cont from above) Alongside the oppression, the capital and anyone associated with it was dangerous. It was better to avoid being near it altogether. Constantine never told Elric exactly what it was that was so bad about the capital beyond the oppression, and in earnest, he found even that a little hard to believe. Blackmanes were still people after all, just like whitemanes, and a majority of the whitemanes he knew were just kind, normal people. And Constantine herself was a blackmane, and she was one of the kindest people Elric knew. She was his hero— if a blackmane like that existed, then surely all blackmanes could not be so horrible. But he did take to heart Constantine’s views about only helping those who truly needed it, so he never bothered trying to go anywhere near the capital— up until the year he turned fifteen.+ Shortly after his birthday, Constantine disappeared. That last day— she had been in a panic, and was trying to rush off with him. He never figured out what she had been trying to escape, or why. They were attacked. Elric doesn’t remember by who. He doesn’t even remember being attacked— only waking up in someone’s home in the town they had been running from, with his powers drained. A peasant had found him severely injured— and all on his own. Constantine was gone. After getting over the shock of what had happened, Elric made up his mind to search for his teacher. Clues of what had happened to her were few and far between, but every little detail brought him closer to the capital. The search for his teacher has become hard to maintain. The closer Elric gets to the capital, the less natural resources there are for him to survive off of. He has begun having to work for money to afford room and board. Luckily, the people in the towns he visits are in no short supply of it, but he has to work harder than ever to earn it. The simple engineering and mechanics that he and his teacher used are not as much of a novelty in the wealthier parts of Aetyria, and he has to take on jobs that are so difficult that he finds himself in need of his powers. His ventures have also made him face the fact that Constantine’s warnings about the oppression he would face were all true. Not everyone is willing to hire him despite his great knowledge and skill, and those that do don’t pay Elric his money’s worth. He still has to gather materials out of the trash— a fact he does his best to hide, to avoid giving his clients more reason to look down on him. At his worst, Elric has had to make a spectacle of his power to make continuing his journey possible, which often attracts unwanted attention. Elric’s money is spread so thin that he sleeps on the streets. He saves most of his money for eating, and buying tools and materials when he can. He travels between town on foot. He’s given up trying to make any contraptions to make it easier to travel. He got robbed twice, and the third invention he made almost got him in serious trouble with the authorities. Elric’s journey has been extremely draining— literally. And he is discovering a world that is worse than he thought. The only thing that keeps him going is his love for Constantine. As becomes more aware of the reality of Aetyria, he wonders what it was that made Constantine such a good person, especially to people like him. And he wonders about her warnings of the capital. He only wishes they weren’t so cyptic— as he is sure now that his journey to find her will plunge him straight into the capital’s bleeding heart… ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Holy moly that was a lot of words! But I had a lot of fun with this cameo. I came up with his entire character and story in a day, and it made me feel like I was back in middle school, just making characters and hanging out with online friends, gushing about my favorite and media and roleplaying all the time. Thanks Xpert for opening your cameos! I really love SSL— though I have been a bit miffed because I haven’t been able to read it on webtoon. It’s rated mature now? Idk if you changed the rating bc I know that that there have been some rating issues with webtune canvas, but I do hope it’s just a site issue, as I really enjoy reading the series on there^^
