Nightfall looks at the young kitten, seeing in her verdant eyes something special. Her back is adorned with many stripes, and while those are not exactly right, there is no mistaking the patterns. The tones are almost identical to those of a spirit’s: Sunset. The bright orange looks just like Nightfall imagines that Sunset’s would in daylight, and the paws and tail? If you inverted them—the tail tip and shoulders—they would be exactly those of the spirit. A star shape rests on her forehead, a few stripes surrounding her eyes in a way that looks astonishingly similar to Sunset’s, though in a different place. And would you look at that, she even has wings. This is no coincidence. How could it be one, for a feline bearing the patterns and gaze of Sunset herself, to appear in this world. It seemed impossible, and yet. And yet, here she was. Sunset, Dawn. Ironic, was it not? The name of the kit and the spirit were exact opposites. Yet it had to mean something. Nightfall hadn’t seen the other yet, but he knew there was another one. One with the light blues and grey hues of Sunrise… A kitten named Dusk. Dawn and Dusk. Sunset and Sunrise. The spirits had sent Dolphin a promise, an omen, a sign. And Nightfall intended to listen to their song.
I diverged from Sunset’s design quite a bit, sorry about that! (Though I must admit I think it turned out better than if it was exact)
