Fin has always been happy. He is a rather young Fishy. The Fishies are a specy of fish-cats. They live in rivers, but when the mood strikes them, they go all the way to the sea. There, they stay until they get homesick. Then, they wait for it to rain and climb up the rain ropes. They reach the clouds, which carry them back to where they came from. When a Fishy is tired of living, it slips into a raindrop and evaporates with it. Fin is a fairly common name among the Fishies, but he is the only one in his group with it. In fact, Fishies live all over the world; there are dozens of groups. Each group has twenty to thirty Fishies. Fin has a sister, Scale. Their mother's name is Bream, and their father's is Wave. In their group, there is a Fishy named Riptide. Riptide is very solitary and often talks to the sharks when they're in the sea. Fin thinks Scale is in love with him, but he's never asked her. He has many friends. He loves big waves, but he's terrified when the waves exceed one height. This doesn't really make sense, since he can't drown because he has invisible gills, in addition to a respiratory system adapted for life outside of water. Fishies are herbivores. They eat terrestrial plants along riverbanks and algae in the sea. They don't touch coral, which is an animal. They live in respect and communion with other creatures and often form friendships with them—like Riptide with the sharks. Fin, for his part, prefers dolphins. He plays with Scale very often—they're from the same litter, their parents' only. Fin is happy.
