~chapter 9:genetic~ the lights flashed. I shook my head in disbelief, too shocked to say anything. "You know... you shouldn't trust everyone you meet," the man said. I head-butted him in anger, striking him so hard his forehead started to bleed. "If so, then I shouldn't trust you!" He hissed in pain, responding sarcastically, "Don't try to be smart with me, little girl." "I'm not a little girl! I'm sixteen!" I snapped. Sixteen? I'm thirty," the man scoffed."No offence, but... you look forty or fifty," I said, trying not to sound timid.The man slammed his hands onto the metal table in frustration. "Do you even know why I brought you here?!" he asked impatiently.I shook my head slowly, keeping my sarcastic smile. He sighed. "look at your ears and then mine. He handed me a mirror and i finally understood everything.Mine were sharp and pointed up,I looked like a pixie.I dropped my sarcastic smile and whispered:"oh...,I'm different,aren't I?" He nodded.As I looked at his ears,I realised he was normal,unlike me. Then everything clicked and started to make sense. The banishment,the wood,the alarm and the hidings. My voice cracked as a sob swelled up in my thought."What...am I?" [end of chapter 9]
