The legend has been passed down for more than a thousand years among the Vietnamese people and is about Vietnam’s most essential cultural myth and the origin of Vietnam’s people. It is one of the most ancient Vietnamese legends. According to the legend, Lạc Long Quân or the Dragon King and Âu Cơ or Fairy fell in love and got married and had a hundred children. The children symbolize the Vietnamese people’s unity as they have the same motherland and the same parents. Half of their children went to live with their father to the sea, while the others went to the mountains with the mother.
