It often occurs in white cats with one blue eye and affects the side where said blue eye can be found. Cats with SSD don't really experience hearing loss, in fact, it barely affects them. Subtle symptoms contain, but are not limited to: no reaction regarding sounds (like talking) aimed at the affected side, a difficulty in locating sounds what makes hunting complicated, and increased anxiety or confusion. Regarding an affected cat's health, SSD doesn't change anything about one's life span.
