I asked, losing my patience. I was still quite concerned about why he was in a cage. "Why are you locked up?" I asked, still keeping my sarcastic tone. I grabbed a sandwich from my bag and handed it to Jack.He smiled sweetly. "Thanks, I'm starving," he said, shovelling the food into his mouth."Stay very still," I whispered cautiously. I took an arrow from my bag, twisted the metal tip inside the lock, and it popped open with a satisfying click. "How did you do that?" he asked, curiosity shining in his eyes.I smiled. "Mum taught me how to fight instead of how to impress a guy," I said, sounding smug. Suddenly, we heard footsteps. I gasped in shock.A tall, skinny man in an army uniform stepped into the room. Luckily, he didn't catch us hiding behind the storage wardrobe. Suddenly, a spider dropped onto Jack's ankle—exactly where it was injured. He let out a low moan of pain. I closed my eyes, praying that the man hadn't heard anything. "Did you hear that,Bob?" A gruff male voice says. [end of chapter 6]
