Chapter 9 Elizabeth wore a simple floral dress with black flat shoes. She held a small suitcase holding all her few dresses and some other treasured items. She looked at the small piece of paper in her hand which her aunt gave to her the day she took Emelia to live with her. The address to her aunt's house was written in bold handwriting. Deborah Wayne, 892 Liberty Street. P.O Box XL 9945 Daisy Lane. She looked at the houses in awe. The buildings were complete with modern facilities and beautiful exteriors. Elizabeth immediately realized that everything in the community screamed wealth. As Liz wandered alone on the noisy street bustling with cars and busy adults shuffling to get to work, she couldn't help but wonder if this was going to be the end of her suffering. After walking for about an hour, she was exhausted and hungry as well as thirsty. She looked around to see if there was a stall selling anything that could quench her thirst. She spotted a stall selling bottles of water across the street and just as she was about to cross, a group of armed robbers dashed past her in a speeding black sports car. They screeched to a halt as an elderly lady was crossing the road, swerving onto the pavement. The friction between the wheels and the pavement caused the tires to catch fire. Liz remembered seeing sparks of fire rise into the air as someone yelled to call 911. She remembered someone grabbing her hand and pulling her away from the crowd as the smoke became unbearable. She remembered a flash of light and someone yelling, "Get the girl and let's go to the old woman!" Then nothing. Darkness overtook her.
