DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A HO ** PHOBE OKAY? >Insert cringey title< “I woke up, rubbed my eyes, and blinked a couple of times. I glanced at my clock, 7:15 am. Boy I was NOT going to be late today. January 30th 2026 was an important day, the first day of my last year at primary school. Depressing, but… exciting. (I lowkey forgot I was a year six T-T) I flung open my closet and… grabbed the first thing I saw. Inspiring. Oops, I forgot to introduce myself! I’ll do it while I’m tryna brush my teeth and pull on my pants with my other hand,” “Hi! My name is Vennila, but you can call me Ven for short. I usually go by that, heh, I’m 10 turning 11, my birthday is on the sixth of the seventh 2015 (help me T-T), and I have the best friends! I don’t really support LGBTQ+, my fave colour is purple, and second fave is-” “VEN STOP TALKING TO YOURSELF AND GET READY FOR SCHOOL!” “Jesus Christ mum…” I rolled my eyes, grabbed an Up and Go, and waited at the door. My friends and I live REALLY close to each other, so everyday, Mia comes to pick me up, and we head to Michi’s house, *knock knock Great! Mia’s here! “Byeeeeeeeeee!” I cried, flinging on my schoolbag, putting on my helmet, and running straight out the door, not waiting for a response. “Hii!” Mia greeted me, with her usual smile. “Heyyy!” I responded, grabbing my scooter and wheeling it towards her, “Lets go!” “So.. school! You nervous?” I asked, stirring up a conversation as usual. “Mmm, not really, I would rather be at home,” Mia responded, shrugging, “But like, whatever!” We arrived at Michi’s house, and waited for like, 2 seconds before the door burst open. “Bye mum!” Michi ran up to us, “hi!” “Hi! Are you nervous for today?” I asked her. “Uh… I guess?” Michi glanced at us, “Oh dang,” “What is it-oh, heh!” Mia realised something I obviously hadn’t realised yet. Oh wait, “Bluetooth connected!” I laughed. Mia and I were both wearing blue shirts, with jeans. Lol- XD We rushed to school, Mia on her bike, me on my scooter, and… Michi on her 2-year-old shoes. “Thank you!” I grinned at the driver that stopped at the zebra crossing for us. IDK why I even bother, it’s not like they can hear me. At least, I don’t think. Parking my scooter, I looked ahead. Kids were hugging each other and screaming at the top of their lungs, while others… just sat emo-ly on a bench. Probably new kids. It was my second year in the Year 5&6 class, Class B. I was in the same class last year with Michi when I was Year 5, while Mia was in Year 4,5&6 Class A.It’s kind of sad, our Year 6 friends are gone now, Year 7s. The friend group feels so… empty now. No more nonchalant Britney, no more over-the-top-knuckle-cracking-world-war-3-starting-korean-diva Gwen, no more typical, talkative Sophia, etc. :c I shrugged my shoulders, completely forgetting my deep train of thought, hung my bag up, and glanced at the class list, which also had our school photos from last year. “Ew I looked so weird,” I muttered out loud. “You think you look weird? Girl,” Michi shoved me. “You look fine!” I rolled my eyes, and shoved her back. “We ALL looked weird okay?” Mia finalized. Michi and I nodded in synchronisation. I scanned the rest of the sheet. “Ooh, Nai is in our class, so is Sam, and Jenny! Great!” I remarked, pleased. “Well, there are also a BUNCH of kids we don’t know, like, who the heck is ‘Jason?’” Mia added, dryly. “Well no doubt we’ll find out soon! Oh- look! THAT’S who Casey is!” Context: Last year, I got the role as one of the school's prefects. They each get assigned with little jobs such as helping out in the office during recess, babysitting the younger kids on a wet day, etcetera. My jobs were babysitting the Year 0s and 1s, with this girl called Maya in Class A, and staffroom, (collecting cups from each class and putting them in the dishwasher) with Cooper. Mia knew Maya from last year, so I wasn’t worried. It just was this guy I had no idea about. I surveyed the photo like I was reading super small letters on a sauce can. He looked Chinese, like Michi and Mia, messy hair, big smile, and a pokemon shirt. “Hmm,” I said aloud. “Come on, rip-off Sherlock Holmes,” Mia tugged my sleeve. “It is an honour to be called that, and surprising you know who he is,” I raised my eyebrows. “I saw the book on your desk.” “Ah. that explains it,” Michi laughed and helped Mia drag me to the other side of the classroom. Kids were piling in, even though the bell hadn’t rung yet. Well, we all wanted to see our new classroom! *RINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! My homeroom teacher was Miss Lana, great! She was in my class last year, so I knew her. She was strict, but still amusing. Probably my favourite teacher, The other 2 teachers in our class: Mrs Kase and Miss Lacey, I also knew Mrs Kase from last year, she was my homeroom teacher.
