The hunger comes, it always does. My mum is curled up on the bed, rocking back and forth. My mother is comforting her. The cold is beginning to set in. As I head out the door to aquire some food, a hand reaches out to try grab me. I grab the arm and pull while simultaneously kicking my right foot out towards my assailant. I feel my hit connect. They colapse, grasping weakly at the wall. That is when I realize that they are wearing the uniform of the imperial guard. Another guard steps out of the shadows. "What do you want with me?" I growl. "A deal." The new one replies curtly. "And why would I trust you." "Because we can help your parents." "I know you're lying." "We can prove it to you." They reply, pulling a loaf of bread out of their bag. "You fight in the arena, and we keep your family fed." "Will you still feed them if I die?" "Yes." "Then we have a deal." I snatch my bag of essentials from the hook just inside the door and follow the one who is still standing down a narrow alleyway, leaving the one on the floor to writhe in peace. They lead me down a narrow alleyway to a nondescript door. They open it to reveal an armory with everything from axes to zweihänders (a type of sword). "Pick a weapon then we will go meet my boss, who is your new boss." They say I quickly scan the room, my eyes landing on a pair of steel toed boots and a pair of sheathed scimitars, the only scimitars in the room. I march over and quickly pull both on. The person who brought me here then leads me down a passage that leads into another passage. We come to a door that they open, ushering me inside. I enter. The door slams shut behind me. The room is a small bedroom with a door leading into what I asume is a bathroom. There is a human stood in the middle of the room. My hands instinctively drop to the hilts of my scimitars. "Finaly, you're here, I thought that maybe my soldiers had been killed." They blurt out. "That can be arranged. One of them won't be able to walk. if they survive." "WHAT!?" "I broke their pelvic bone." "I-" I smirk, flashing my unusually sharp teeth. "This is your room, Stormbringer, you will get whatever my minions promised you. Your first fight is at midday tomorrow." They saunter out. As the sun creaps towards its peak, there is a knock on the door and it flies open. I whirl round to face the door, my blades in hand before I have finished the turn. "What do you want?" I snap. "It is time for your first fight. The crowd is baying for fresh blood." They reply. "They won't be having any of mine. I intend to win. Lead on." They walk down a corridor that ends in a small room with a sandy floor and portaculis blocking one wall. Through the portaculis I can see a large open arena with crowds on all sides and an identical room to my own on the other side. The other room has a hulking beast of a man, wielding a greataxe. The portaculises rise, letting us free. The crowd is chanting "Bonecrusher, Bonecruher." That must be my opponent, nice name, I ignore the crowd. Bonecrusher rushes towards me, screaming in fury. I rush forwards, as if to meet his charge, leaving my blades sheathed. At the last second I jump over his greataxe, landing inside of the arc of his swing. I pull out one scimitar and plunge it into his chest, just under his sparce armor. The crowd gasp as one, obviously not expecting the smaller person to kill an obvious favorite in one blow. I am lead out of the arena to the cataphony of shouts.
