In traditional Japanese cooking, there is a famous mnemonic for the order in which basic seasonings should be added, known as the "Sashisuseso of Japanese Seasoning." "Sa-shi-su-se-so" refers to five Japanese characters that all begin with the "S" consonant sound in English. Following this specific order helps bring out the best possible aroma and flavor of each seasoning in a dish. Inspired by this, I came up with an English version called "The 5S of Seasoning." Personally, I actually prefer the English version because the word "Seasoning" itself starts with an "S," which makes the mnemonic fit even better.
