Shorter chapter than the last one. Warnings - bit of injuries I walked to the park, the last few days replaying quickly in my mind. Madison is really awesome, she’s goofy, kind, and brave. Not to mention athletic, don’t get me started on that. We had hung out at the park after school the last few days (keeping better track of time these times), and seen each other a few times in the morning on the way to school. She was an awesome friend, and I love to hang out with her. We had agreed yesterday that we would meet up in the park every morning and walk to school together, since Madison’s dad’s work schedule had been changed and he was now home way earlier. Madison really wanted to spend more time with her dad since she hasn’t gotten to see him in a while since he has been working a lot lately. Anyways, it was much easier just to walk to school together. We didn’t have anything else to do, and we did it almost every day so me and Madison get lots of time to hang out. When I reached the park I looked around for Madison, then when I didn’t see her I sat down on the bench and pulled my book out of my backpack. After a few minutes I heard a bike bell. Someone was aggressively ringing it, and as I looked up, ready to ask them to please stop because I was trying to read, and I saw it was Madison. I put my book back into my backpack and looked at her as she rode up. I smiled as she was laughing and I said “I didn’t know you had a bike.” “That’s because I didn’t.” She said between laughs. After she calmed down a bit, still grinning, she said “My dad was working overtime so much so he could get me this!” She said excitedly. “That’s great!” I said, enthusiastically, but definitely not as enthusiastic as her. “I know right!” She said and she laughed again. After a moment she asked “Want a ride to school?” And I looked at her for a moment. “Um,” I said, not sure if it would be safe. She didn’t have a helmet on, and knowing her she would probably ride pretty fast. “Don’t worry, I have a helmet.” She said as she reached into her backpack and pulled a blue helmet out. I smiled, still a bit nervous, but when she said “I’ll stop at the cafe and buy you a black coffee and croissant.” I nodded. As she handed me the helmet and I clipped it on, I asked “where am I supposed to ride?” She pointed to the rack on the back and said, “sit there and you can hold onto me.” And I hesitated for a moment, then thought about how happy it would make her, and about the black coffee and croissant that were waiting for me. I climbed onto the uncomfortable makeshift seat and grabbed onto her shoulders. She looked back at me and smiled as she started to peddle quickly. I gasped a bit as we hit a bump and Madison laughed a bit. As we rode by a few people, getting strange looks from everyone, I said “Maybe we should slow down a bit.” Madison looked over her shoulder at me and said “Never! No one can stop-“ I cut her off as I looked over her in front of the bike and yelled “Lamp post!” She quickly turned her head and said “Where!” as we ran into it and the bike, with both of us on it, fell over. I closed my eyes as we hit the concrete. I felt my head hit it hard, but luckily I had the helmet on. I suddenly shot up, which caused my head to ache, and saw Madison laying on the ground in front of me, eyes closed. “Oh no! Madison.” I say as I pulled the bike up off the both of us and lay it against the lamp post and looked down at Madison. A crowd had started to gather, and as we all looked at Madison she slowly opened her eyes. “That’s where.” She said and I smiled as she started to weakly laugh. “Are you okay?” I asked as I tried to help her up. She smiled and nodded. “Just a ding on the head” she said as she started to stand up. “And on the back.” She said rubbing her back a bit, then wincing as she tried to smile again, “and on the cheek.” She said rubbing a spot on her cheek. As she pulled her hand away I saw a pretty bad scrape where it was, and it was bleed!ng a bit. “Uh, let me try to find a bandage for that.” I said as the crowd had started to grow smaller. “I have one.” Said a girl who had come out of a shop. I recognized her face immediately. She was that one girl from the coffee shop me and Madison stopped at the first day we walked to school together. She walked over to Madison with a first aid kit and pulled some bandaids and alcoh0l wipes from it. She handed them to Madison and Madison gently rubbed her scrape with the wipe, wincing a bit. After wiping the scrape to make sure it was clean she put the bandage over it and smiled. “How do I look?” She asked. I smiled, as the bandage somehow made her look more like herself. It kind of completed her look, like it said “I’m a kid who will do what I want.” I don’t think she could get more pretty. Wait. WHAT?! Continue
How could I think that! I shook my head as I felt my face heating up. I’ve known Madison for like half a month! How could I think that! She’s just a friend. Just a good friend. I felt someone grab my shoulder. “Hey, you okay?” Madison asked as she looked at me with such a concerned look in her eyes. Gosh she looked so cute. Ughh, cut it out brain! I thought as I nodded my head a bit. “Okay, let’s go order then. I believe I owe you a croissant and a black coffee.” She said and I smiled and nodded. I noticed Madison had set her bike upright near the lamp post. Must have been when I was zoned out. As I walked in the door and Madison ordered, I sat down at the table we had sat at the first time, knowing she would order for me. As she walked over and sat down across from me, she looked at me, a concerned look returning to her eyes. “You sure you’re okay? Did you get hurt? Did you hit your head?” She asked. “No, I’m fine, sorry.” I said. That’s it,I thought. I just hit my head. As the girl at the counter called out our order Madison went to grab it and we walked outside and Madison leaned on the lamp post near her bike. We ate in silence, and Madison kept looking at me, but I’m assuming she didn’t want to bother me by asking if I was okay again, so she just ate her croissant and drank her coffee. When she finished she threw her trash away and I was quick to follow. “Wanna try again. I’ll go slower this time.” Madison said and I nodded, wanting to have her close again. As we climbed on the bike Madison took off much slower, but eventually got back to the speedy pace we were at earlier. As we approached Grad, Madison pulled the bike to a bike rack near the lamp post she always spun on when saying goodbye to me. “Isn’t one at school, gotta lock it up here.” She said as she noticed my questioning look. I nodded and she pulled the bike lock out of her backpack. I took my helmet off and tried to straighten my hair a bit. When Madison was done and noticed me trying to straighten my hair she ruffled it, and said “I think you look better with it messy.” And I blushed a bit. “Okay.” I said, letting my hands drop, and she smiled a bit and laughed as she hopped up on the lamp post. She spun around and said “Farewell my friend. See you in the morrow~” I waved goodbye to Madison. This time, I did wish it was a goofy rom com. Our goofy rom com. I laughed at the thought. “Man, I really must have hit my head. I’ll ask to see the nurse at our break period.” I muttered, then I walked down the sidewalk, not being able to get Madison out of my head.
