FAQ (Please read everything, especially since things have changed a bit this session!) 1. What is WUC? WUC is a writing camp here on scratch that is bianuual (two times a year), runs in the months of April and October. Unlike SWC, WUC is slightly less competitive and we do encourage you not to stay up or pull all-nighters. It is similar to many other camps, but rather it focuses more on writing improvement rather than competition. 2. What are the responsibilities of a (co)leader? - Maintaining a healthy balance between WUC and real life and encouraging the same for campers -Answering questions & concerns that campers may have regarding WUC -Taking any questions & concerns (theirs or others’) to the hosts if they are unsure of their answer -Updating word counts in a timely fashion -Contributing to cabin planning and development 3. How is this different from SWC/other writing camps? Although WUC is inspired by many other writing camps, WUC is a completely separate idea because we're a smaller camp that encourages writing improvement and camper bonding rather than competition. 4. Will we have co-leaders? It depends on how many apps we get <3 More apps means we're more likely to be doing co-leaders so take your chances and apply! 5. How do co-leaders work? Applications not chosen to be leaders will automatically be open to being chosen as co! You are not allowed to advertise your application to the chosen leaders—we do monitor this. More specific directions for choosing co-leaders will be given later on <3 6. What are the cabin names? Cabins vary by interest every session, so you can suggest any cabin from the past or a completely new one in your app. The cabin list will be finalized during leader selection! A list of past cabin genres can be found here: You aren't required to write in the genre of your cabin! It's simply a name <3 7. What is the NCCTWNW? The Non Competitive Cabin That Will Not Win is a cabin separate from the leaderboard and the competitive aspect of WUC—it's designed to be relaxed and help participants focus on personal goals. NCCTWNW can be assigned to any genre cabin! 8. When is my application due? 11:59 PM UTC on August 17th. We also require a text version of your answers by the deadline. 9. When will (co)leaders be chosen? After applications close, the hosts will select and notify leaders within a few days. Co-leaders will be chosen by leaders between then and the 1st of September. 10. Can I apply if I’ve never participated in WUC at all? Of course, anybody can apply. However, we still recommend at least one session of camping experience so you know what you’re committing to! 11. Can I get an extension on my app? Extensions are given on an individual basis, and only for unforeseen circumstances such as tech issues or a family emergency. Only 24 hour extensions will be granted, after there are 48 hours left until the deadline. You must provide your answers through a forum post by the original deadline!
