a track by track review of one of my favourite albums. What is your name? is a canadian artist under the name of "Jebediah Jungus", who does all the music himself. what is your name? is known mainly for the 2022 album 'the now now and never', which has been shared through websites such as rate your music. As of 2026, he has released 3 albums and numerous eps and singles. (continued in notes and credits)
1. It's ok... - The chaotic introduction to the flustered mind of jeb jungus starts with backwards guitars, a single chord played twice and then the whole song hits you at once, the arpeggio played by a guitar accompanied by the chords played under crescendoing violins, and the wild random drum fills, as jeb begins to sing of someone having 'left and gone', and how he can't move on. after an instrumental break filled with descending synths and a snare heavy beat which gets louder and louder, everything falls away, leaving an acoustic guitar strumming the guitar very heavily, and when the drums and bass and strings come in, jeb continues to lament on how he 'still feels the same', but this time his mind has calmed down, contrary the fluster of the first half of the song. 2. HEY! GUN! - the most chaotic song on the album, hey gun starts promptly with "whats your name?" before a short verse with similar lyrical content as its ok takes you by surprise, stays for around 45 seconds and then makes way for one of the most satisfying, sing along builds of the album, jebs layered voices chanting Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! until numerous samples join in, one which i believe to be from seinfeld come in and take over. another verse comes in afterwards which is packed with random sound effects and samples until the song just ends 3. Serenity in Solitary - a fairly simple pop song, with its fair share of loud instrumental breaks which are jebs signature on this album, until towards the end a chiming sound marks a break in the song, until a guitar solo and chorus takes you to the end. 4. such a soulless lover... similar to its ok in the vibe and lyrics, and includes an interesting 5:4 section. the highlight of the song however is the break in the music which gives way to an ascending engine (i think?) sound, an ascending bass riff and an easily tappable drum rhythm and later on a bunch of random screaming sounds until a pretty amazing dirty guitar line breaks the chaos, while jeb sings about a soulless lover and the drums carry on with jebs signature crazy drum lines 5. Mirror / Candle - strings and acoustic guitars appear before a really catchy violin line and drums come in, and the verse remains the same but without the violins, as jeb sings about being lost. later on in the song, the most catchy part (in my opinion) is when the violins and sound effects drop out until its just guitar and drums, and a woman singing about giving the lost jebediah the map. an amazing part of the song is when jeb sings with only an acoustic guitar ' who turned out the lights? you make me cry, who turned out the l- ' to be interrupted by a really phat hip hop beat, and the rest of the song is jeb singing about how the girl affected him, with distortion at the end. 6. aM i aL0ne ? (or just crazy ! ?) - the song is in two parts: the first half an interesting instrumental of repetitive (not in a bad way) and plucky guitars accompanied by spoken words about being bored with life, and lyrics being sung above that which i can't make out, but sound a lot like thom yorke. part two: part 1 is abruptly interrupted by some pipes, and another build of a lovely bassline accompanied by drums and the sound of wind howling. its interrupted by abrasive drum fills and samples of laughing and speaking and a plucky guitar riff comes in towards the end
