Beach Ride with Sandy [] Upd. 005- Today, I took Sandy for a trot on the beach. And then realized I was riding a horse named Sandy at the sandiest place I could think of after the ride started. Anyway, since it's been so hot, and I need to continue training Sandy since I still consider him young, so I took him to the beach. Now, I got sandy back in January. All of my very first horses have been deleted(if they were my art), reclaimed, or resold, as far as I know and remember. Because of this, Sandy is one of our longest owned horses. And he still hasn't finished training completely. Back to the update. Since Sandy hasn't finished training, I decided a nice beach ride near the water would be best for such a hot day and since Sandy has never been outside of the facilities of the estate. While this little beach is on the property, it is not as close to the barn as other things and is not at all fenced in. Therefore, I thought it would expose him to more of the outside world while he is still young. I tacked Sandy up in an english riding set. I do not know exactly what disipline I want to focus him on, but so far, he has just been doing english and we will most likely stick to that. As we trotted along the beach, Sandy was mostly calm. Every so often he would stray a bit close to the shore and it would come up to his feet. Although he didn't spook, he did keep speeding back to where the tide couldn't get him. After a bit of drama with the tide, where he tried to buck because it got him when he didn't go close, some birds flew by, cawing and squaking. I was worried that that would trigger Sandy to take off for home. Luckly, the birds were of no concern to him and we finished our ride shortly after. Altogether, Sandy did great, He was a bit nervous of the tide, but he did very well anyway. He was great with cues, and steering, so he is definetly progressing like I hoped. While I have no trouble whatsoever getting him to start a trot, he does not keep the gait. When he is trotting, he starts fairly fast, and slowly, he brings it back down to a walk and sometimes, but not ussually, he will slow that walk to a halt.
