I also knew I was having the most fun writing I'd had in a while. This was an attempt to recreate that experience. It turns out writing self-indulgent pieces that are designed to be tacky as hell can be really fun, who knew! Heavily inspired by the short story 17776! I fell so hard and fast in love with the idea of writing a story that was an experience in its own right that I had to try my own hand at it. About halfway through I realized I probably also ripped off some aspects of The Locked Tomb by Tamsyn Muir. I haven't read the series in a while, though, so I can't tell for sure.
