A simple six-step program for brainstorming, making, and releasing a full game. First: organize. We need people, and a detailed idea about what we want the game to look like. Eagerness to get started is appreciated, but starting too early will lead to lots of chaos and probably a lot of wasted work, as the game design is prone to drastic changes in the early stages. we finished this stage around August 1. Second: begin a rough draft. We outline the game, build a framework. Work on the actual code and art begins. we are here now. Third: put together the rough draft for a limited early access build. This will be low-quality, buggy, and maybe boring. That’s okay. Fourth: review what we like and dislike about the current game, and set up some goals on what to improve and change. Repeat until satisfied. Fifth: do a usability test, get some beta play testers, release early access! Fix any problems. Sixth: full release. Continue patching, fixing, and balancing, until we feel that we can really step away from the project and leave it be. There we have six simple steps to a full game. Please leave feedback :) I’m not sure how long these steps will take, but I know we need to really settle in as a team so that everyone is ready and up to date when we actually begin working. Around a month feels good to me, but I don’t know about you guys.
