Stage of grief: n/a “I fell too hard for you, it almost killed me” {lyrics} Verse 1: You loved me just enough to keep me holding on Just enough to make the warning signs seem wrong I thought I was floating every time we’d touch Never knew that going under felt so much like us Pre-chorus: Every breath got harder than the last But I was so sure that we could last Chorus: I fell too hard for you, it almost killed me I dove too deep til I couldn’t breathe I almost didn’t surface But you dragged me up Just to throw me away But I guess you saved me in the end Otherwise, I would’ve drowned Verse 2: I noticed I was tired long before I knew the cause Thought it was the distance, thought it was my fault Every breath came shorter than the one before But I kept swimming father from the shore Pre-chorus: Every breath got harder than the last But I was so sure that we could last Chorus: I fell too hard for you, it almost killed me I dove too deep til I couldn’t breathe I almost didn’t surface But you dragged me up Just to throw me away But I guess you saved me in the end Otherwise, I would’ve- Bridge: I fought the tide, I fought the distance And the silence in between But every time I thought I’d reached you, The water pulled you out of reach Were the waves pulling me under Or away from you? Me for the guitar, lyrics, and vocals {info} Run time - 4:16 Key - A minor BPM - 63 {note} “I Would’ve Drowned” is the 11th track on “grief” and is about loving someone so deeply that you’re willing to keep fighting for something that is already pulling you under. I write this song about the confusion of realizing that someone could hurt you and still me someone that you’re grateful for… because even though losing them broke your heart, it also forced you to start finding your way back to yourself. The ocean metaphor represents the highs and lows of a relationship, the moments where I felt like I was sinking because of it, and the painful realization that sometimes the thing that hurts you the most is also the thing that saves you. I hope you enjoy “I Would’ve Drowned”, it’s one of my favorites! <333
