saturn's dbd manager application 1. introduction: hello, i'm saturn, but you may also know me as ichor or aspen. :] i've been an active member of DBD since august of 2025. my timezone is pst, and i'm 14 in september. this is not my only account, but it is my main for the time being. (i'm not banned on the other one/at risk of being banned; i just like this username better.) 2. experience: online: i've managed the GWDFI Roleplay. it was pretty hectic at its peak, so i definitely learned how to collaborate with my fellow managers to prevent chaos and solve problems. i also was a cabin co-leader for Camp GWDFI. i worked with my fellow co-leaders (one of whom is a current dbd manager) to organize the campers and run activities. additionally, i am a manager of the Mood-Boosting Brasserie. while it isn't currently very active, it was a while ago, and during that time, i was able to build emotional skills. in real life: i did two years of student council/cabinet (or whatever you may call it). i worked with five other people who each had very widely-varying ideas, so i learned to compromise and collaborate despite our often contradicting viewpoints. i've been the captain of a sports team, as well as a robotics team. this is a bit different from being a manager of a online space, but the skill of resolving conflicts is still applicable in DBD. 3. why i'd like to be a manager: while this thought is (nearly) ubiquitous in online chatroom manager applications, i must say i want to be a manager to give back to the space that's given me so much, and such a position would allow me to help as much as possible. i would also love to gain more experience working a leadership role in a team, which is applicable in many real-life scenarios. (especially because i'd like to join my school's journalism editorial team!) next, i'd be able to make improvements on the studio, and unlike real-life situations, having a near-constantly active community means i can rely on an instant feedback loop for any updates or changes. finally, there's a bit of a personal and unimportant reason: i think being a manager gives you a front-row seat of group psychology and social dynamic development, which i find super interesting. 4. what i think being a manager involves: - enforcing (and following, of course) rules - monitoring the studio - being active and interacting with users - answer questions and visit suggestions studio frequently - communication with other managers and studio members - patience - being welcoming to new members - resolving conflict calmly - accountability and responsibility - good decision-making under pressure/stress 5. why i’d make a good manager: i think i’d make a good manager because i have a lot of experience in leadership (mentioned above). i would consider myself a decently reliable and communicative person. also, i’ve been in DBD since it became active, so i’m familiar with the rules and most people in the studio. i’ve not been involved in much of the drama in DBD as well. i also think one of my best skills is problem-solving. my extracurriculars all resolve around some sort of problem-solving (such as robotics), and so i’ve honed this skill decently well. also, the current managers mainly are in anime/tv show fandoms, and i think (as a science/history/literature person) that it would be nice to see some sort of representation from our side of fandoms. <— if that makes sense furthermore, i make an effort reply to “hello” and positivity/euphoria comments. i think making others feel noticed is important for a manager to do. (continued in notes and credits)
6. downsides and weaknesses: i can be negative and pessimistic at times, but i’m working on it. (i know i used to be constantly quite negative, but hopefully you’ve noticed a positive change in my behavior as of a couple months ago.) i’m also a bit indecisive at times when i’m in an unfamiliar situation, but with enough experience i’m alright. my activity can be a little spotty (more below). i recognize that i do have weaknesses, and i’d like to change for the better, so if there’s anything that would make me a better candidate, please let me know! 7. ideas for improving DBD: i’ve got two ideas, the first being to incentivize good behavior (repeated from previous application). if generally good/better behavior is noticed, the design delay could be raised by a couple points/the next timeout could be 15 minutes shorter. although i do recognize that “better” is very subjective. the second idea is to have a project with what DBDers are working on. i noticed that some managers used to advertise their unrelated-to-DBD projects, and occasionally members’. with a project to advertise these, we could include the links of many different users’ projects so it’s not seen as favoritism or anything. 8. activity level: this summer i’ve been less active (maybe 6/10) because i wanted to spend more time writing. i’ll hopefully be more active (8/10) starting fall. occasionally i may have robotics tournaments, but they don’t occur super often. in summary my activity is a 7/10 but i’ll dedicate more time if i’m promoted. (i’m currently on hiatus btw) thanks for reading my application! good luck to everyone. :]
