✧ The Light Between Us ✧ ☆•° Chapter 14 °•☆ "The mark of the Triforce makes its appearance on the member most worthy of that fragment," Purah explained, clicking through a slideshow full of little GIFs. She pointed out a bunny holding the Triforce. Link, Impa, and I sat on a few chairs in front of her, listening patiently. Purah was one of the smartest people I knew, but she liked to take detours. Namely in the form of chibi animals wielding tiny Master Swords. "For example," she continued, "throughout history, the Triforce of Courage has appeared on the Hero's hand, giving him the aspects of a true hero, also rendering him worthy of the sword that seals the darkness." I noticed Link staring at the back of his hand. He then raised it, as if to ask a question. "Yes, Linky," Purah called on him. I shot her a curious glance. Linky? Since when did Purah have nicknames for him. "Does that mean that -" he hesitated. "I need to learn how to use a sword?" "Ah!" Purah tapped her nose and grinned. "I have a theory." Of course she did. "I think that the Mark of the Triforce gives its wielder the skills necessary to actually bear that piece of the Triforce," Purah said, walking back and forth and swinging her laser. "That is to say, it amplifies your given qualities." She stopped abruptly and pointed at Link. "Can you fight?" "Huh? Um, yeah," he stammered. "Yeah, I can fight." "Good." Purah stepped back. "Then you will know how to use the sword. I mulled over Purah's theory. If she was right, then that would mean... "Purah," I began. "About my sealing power. Does that mean I have the mark of the Triforce?" Purah clapped excitedly. "Exactly!" she cheered. "You're one smart cookie, Princess. The power you inherited from the royal family is magnified when the Mark of the Triforce appears on your hand. In your case, it'll be the Triforce of Wisdom." "But- when will it appear?" I asked, looking down at my hands. They were just normal hands - nothing special about them. Unlike Link's, who had known his fate for a day now - and everything was clear for him. I sighed and lowered my gaze. I knew it was irrational, considering I had to put aside our differences, but I couldn't help but feel jealous of Link. Despite my growing affection for him, there was also a growing knot of resentment. "I- I honestly don't know, Princess," she admitted. "Even after looking at examples across the ages, I still haven't been able to establish a pattern. I'm sorry." I closed my eyes. So there was no certainty I'd be able to ever harness my power. "A-anyways," Purah said, changing the topic, "I had Robbie scan Hyrule for possible locations of the Master Sword." Link perked up. I could tell he was excited for this. That suited him well. A hero who knew exactly what to do, where to go... and enjoyed the process as well. Meanwhile my future was unclear - and it pained me. "What did you get?" he asked. Purah switched the slideshow to a map of Hyrule and zoomed in on a location due east of Elma Knolls, on a large forest."This place," she said, tapping the map, "used to be called the Lost Woods. Now it's a state-protected area. A few tourists are allowed inside, but not too far in. It's extremely easy to get lost in there. Quite a few monsters too." Link sucked in sharply. "And... the Master Sword is in there?" "At least, that's what our sensors indicate," Purah replied. "If we do go in, we'll have to be very careful." We sat in silence, thinking about everything we just learned. I knew we'd have to get the Master Sword eventually, but this solidified the impending Calamity - a fact I'd avoided thinking about. My training was more demanding than ever now. I felt like I was getting closer to my power, but it was still frustratingly far away. Now that we were to get the Master Sword, the urgency of the situation hit me hard. If I couldn't unlock it... No. I had to. I told Impa that we couldn't rely on technology, but now I realized the need for it. I was the key to sealing Ganon, but I alone couldn't do it. Even together, Link and I... Link and I. A shiver ran down my spine. I had to speak before my thoughts ran even more rampant. "Purah, you know about the Divine Beasts?" I said hurriedly. She nodded. "I think we need to rebuild them." I bit my lip. I remembered very well what we learned from history class. The Divine Beasts had been taken over. Yet we had to take that chance. Purah contemplated this for a minute before replying, "True. AncientTech should be able to create replicas. We'll need pilots to operate them, though." "So, what's next?" Link asked, looking at me. "Champions," I said. "They can help us in the Lost Woods." I smiled slightly. "And I think I already know one. ☆•° Chapter 13 °•☆ ☆•° Chapter 15 °•☆ ✧ Note ✧ Sorry about the late release!
