James laughs, and I laugh with him. It starts out as quiet giggling, then erupts into laughter, the kind where you can’t stop and wouldn't want to anyway. James manages to fall off the log we were sitting on, which just sent us both deeper into our fits of giggles. He climbs back up on the log (as in, he mimes climbing; this log is like a foot tall, max) and sits next to me again, and brushes mulch off of him. He sits much closer to me than before, but I’m not protesting. As in, I’ve been wanting to move closer to him this entire time but hadn’t found a good way yet. We get quiet for a moment before he asks “So, what's up with you?” Just being gay, thanks for asking. I don’t say that though. “I have dropped my table on my foot approximately 70 billion times. I think my toes are flatter now. Otherwise fine.” “Hah! How’s your table, besides dropping it on your foot 70 billion times?” “Uh, good! It’s really big, though. Like, if mice flew planes, this would be a runway for them. And I’m carving a bird on the table. It looks demonic. I don’t know why I carved a bird, I’m terrible at carving.” “Oh, like my bird sculpture!” “Yeah, that’s where I got the inspiration from!” “Oh, that’s cool! I assume you got the demonic part from me as well?” “I would love to say I was trying to replicate yours, but I’m just that bad at carving.” “Hah! Did you name… pronouns?” “He/him.” “Did you name him?” Dang it. I named my bird James. “Uh, no, I didn’t name him. Was I supposed to?” “Yes! What kind of craftsmen doesn't name their creations?” “Me. What is your bird's name?” “Ummm…” Heh. Got him.
