The Flat Earth hypothesis says that Earth is the only flat object in the Solar System, so everything BUT Earth is flat. The alien is looking at Earth poking out like a sore thumb in the middle of a normal system. 4. We naturally align ourselves to either Earth's axis or orbital plain, but a being from a whole other system might align themselves either upside-down, to their orbital plain, or to the Milky Way's orbital plain (which is way off from ours) 5. Most sci-fis say all this science-y, nerd stuff to explain space-travel. But in H. G. Well's "The War of the Worlds" (which was made not only before space-flight but before just flight-flight) his theoretical way the Martians get to Earth is by the Great Gun which shoots cylinders containing the Martians to Earth 6. Some sci-fis have SO much theoretical stuff that the world looks more like a fever dream, but we just say "What can I say? They're probably smarter!" 7. In movies, Black Holes are SUPER cinematic, but in reality, Black Holes absorb light, so their impossible to detect them the old-fashioned way
