✧ The Light Between Us ✧ ☆•° Chapter 13 °•☆ "I'm so sorry," Impa said for what must have been the hundredth time. She was sitting right next to me in Link's car, watching me protectively. "Impa, it's okay," I replied. "There's no way you could've fought off so many." "But there were only four, not counting the trash can kid!" she protested. "They surprised you," I said. "And anyways, Link came just in time." Link gave me a thumbs up from the driver's seat. "We have to at least tell the police," Impa said. I squirmed uncomfortably. I didn't want to admit that Kohga's threats had actually affected me. I just didn't want anyone to get hurt on my account. "Oh, come on, Princess." Impa crossed her arms. It was her turn to assure me. "Did they threaten you?" "You, actually," I snipped. "They said they'd hurt you- and all my other friends if I told anyone." The car rolled to a stop at a traffic light. I recognized the road to my house. Wait till Father hears about this, I thought wryly. "Well, you've said it out loud now," Link commented. "So I guess we can tell a few more people." "True." I looked down at my hands, wondering about a fleeting feeling I had experienced when Link arrived. Like a deep memory waiting to be discovered. Maybe... this was the power I was meant to unlock? We pulled into the driveway of the mansion I called home. Link switched off the ignition, then twisted around to look at me. "Do you think I should come in with you?" he asked, blushing slightly. "You know, to help explain things." "Probably," I said. I was surprised that it wasn't more awkward between us. We had recently hugged, after all. But, I guess we were both repressing it for the sake of convenience, passing it off as just him supporting me. Diminishing the moment to a mere shadow of what it had been to me. I felt a pang. The emotions that had overwhelmed me when I first met Link were returning, clamoring for attention amidst all the other things I had on my mind. I reluctantly pushed them away. I had to focus on the present. We climbed the decorated stone stairs to the imposing front doors. Impa stayed close by my side, while Link trailed off a little ways behind us. I couldn't blame him. The house was intimidating, to say the least. After a brief explanation to a worried Hoz where we had been, I showed Impa and Link to the meeting room and ran off to look for Father. I found him in his office, writing in a journal. He snapped it shut when he saw me enter. He looked up. "Do you need something?" "Could we go to the meeting room to talk?" I asked. "I brought some friends, and they need to hear it." A curious look on his face, he followed me downstairs and sat down across from me and Impa. Link stood hurriedly when he entered the room, but Father waved his hand. "I'm at home," he told Link. "You don't have to observe formalities here." Link nodded nervously and took a seat in one of the lone armchairs. "Zelda, you wanted to tell us something?" Father asked. I related what had happened earlier, including everything- down to the painful detail of me revealing the password. "I'll send word to Cedro to change the password and be on the lookout," he said. "For Yiga," I added. "I think that Kohga and Sooga are members." "That's a serious accusation," Father warned me. "But I can see how you might think that. I'll look into it." "Your Majesty..." Link began tentatively. "Yes?" Father shifted his gaze to him. "You're Link, correct?" "Yes- I- I just wanted to say that I've encountered those two before," Link rushed. "Kohga always boasts about powerful friends and antagonizes others freely. That must mean something." I looked at Link thankfully. Usually it took more than one piece of evidence for Father to investigate something, especially if the first clue was only one of my theories. "Zelda, if you're right about the Calamity," Father said gravely, "then we need a knight who carries the sword that seals the darkness." "But Your Majesty, how- or why- would we get a sword?" Impa asked. "In this modern world, anything from legends is obsolete." "Impa, don't you remember?" I said. "The Sheikah technology was far beyond what we have now. And when Ganon possessed it, their last resort was the hero and his sword." She made a skeptical face. "I'm just saying," I continued, "we shouldn't put our trust in technology. The Calamity could take control of it all again." "Exactly," Father agreed. "It was the sword and the princess' power that defeated Ganon. I wonder, though..." Link fidgeted uncomfortably. I knew what was coming next, and I could tell he did too. "It can't be a coincidence," Father mused. "Perhaps you, Link, are the knight." "There is a way to find out," I said. I grabbed his hand and looked at the back of it. A small golden triangle pulsed faintly on it. We had found our knight. ☆•° Chapter 12 °•☆ ☆•° Chapter 14 °•☆ ✧ Added some music :) ✧
