Ganondorf raised his large fist to his forehead, flexing his fingers before plunging them forcefully into his skull. A chilling series of cracks and snaps, comparable to the breaking of celery or the freezing of a fjord, followed his abrupt action. Despite the grotesque collection of unnerving noises, Ganondorf’s grin remained stamped across his face as he dug his large, meaty hand around through his skull. His eyes lit with an unnatural light as he withdrew from the bloody gash in his forehead a glowing, muddy-colored pebble. Not a pebble. Not a pebble at all. “A mere mortal,” Ganondorf growled, holding his Secret Stone above his head, its gloomy radiance illuminating his face, revealing the wound across his forehead in gruesome detail, “will not stop me.” He rotated the stone in his fingers as if he were studying its features, his large smile going from a grin to a smirk. Tulin winced from above me. “I will sacrifice it all to destroy you.” Ganondorf’s eyes flickered in my direction. His hand seemed to draw ever closer to his mouth. “I will sacrifice it all to cast this world into an eternal night. You cannot stop me.” Ganondorf thrust his hand into his throat. His pupils dilated to over twice their size. My eyes widened. “Stand your ground,” I warned, “stay back.” A hot gust of wind hit me like a wall. I was crushed by the force of the wave as it threw me against the cave wall, wincing as the waves of force kept coming. A shrill, inhuman shriek resonated from the center of the large, cavernous room as the waves continued to crash at us. “What is that thing?!” Tulin cried. “Don’t panic, Tulin!” Riju didn’t sound very convincing herself. “I’ll explain—” Another wave crushed my chest, causing the wound on my neck to bleed. I coughed, feeling blood dribble from the corner of my mouth and tasting the iron in the back of my throat. “—Later!” The shriek from the creature occurred again, only louder. My ears felt like they were going to explode, my head throbbing as the heavy waves of force came to a halt. The sages and I collapsed to the ground, catching our breath. My knees hit the ground, my lungs strained, and I coughed, raising an arm to cover my mouth. I withdrew it, and brought it immediately to my side to hide the red stains in the leather of my tunic. It was silent. Uncannily silent. My head throbbed. The ground shook violently. I saw the cavern beginning to cave in through the blackening corners of my vision, and the glowing red blur of a creature of some sort passed through my line of sight as I felt myself caught between two hard surfaces. Through the onslaught of sensory overload, all I could tell was that I was no longer on the ground. A familiar voice from a familiar time echoed in my eardrums. It was like seeing a candle flicker amidst impenetrable darkness. Soft like a memory, but strong like a moment, making my heart sprint and my eyes cloud with tears, from which the salt irritated the cuts on my neck and lips. The voice was worried, tragic even, and plucked at my heartstrings like a harp as if it came from a more distant time. zєℓ∂α “Zelda what is it?” I winced, clutching at the sides of my body as if I were about to crumble to dust. Sonia put her hands to the sides of my face, looking through my eyes and into my soul. “Zelda, what is wrong?” “It’s Link,” I say, tears streaming down my cheeks like waterfalls as I buried my head in Sonia’s shoulder. “What about him?” “H-he’s dying,” I cried helplessly into her shoulder, shaking profusely. “He’s dying, and I have no way to save him this time.” Sonia placed her hand at the back of my head. “Oh, Sonia, he’s in pain!” I sobbed, choking on my tears. “I can feel his suffering, Sonia! Every time I close my eyes I see him, I feel it….Oh, goddess, he’s going to die!” I sank to my knees, Sonia following me down, holding me tightly. “He can’t die, Sonia,” I wept, barely catching my breath. “Not after all that has happened!” “Zelda, look at me,” Sonia said firmly. ଘ(´꒳`)°* ੈ‧₊˚ *ᵍᵃˢᵖ* ᶜᵒⁿᵗⁱⁿᵘᵉᵈ ᵇᵉˡᵒʷ! ᶜʰᵉᶜᵏ ⁱᵗ ᵒᵘᵗ!

She looked me directly in the eye, her gaze stern and soft all at once. Although her voice was stone cold with seriousness, it somehow found a way to be angelic at the same time. “He is only going to die if you let him.” “But how can I stop it if I am not even alive?” Sonia continued to hold me for what seemed like an eternity as I sobbed. I held my arms around myself as if I were trying to hold myself together. Suddenly, Sonia began to laugh. “Zelda,” Sonia looked at me, smiling, her eyes alight with discovery and fascination, “you /are/ alive.” “What?” “You are a dragon.” And I /was/. I still had a body. I still had a mind. Even if it wasn’t my own, there was still a chance—a faint sliver of hope in a world where fate wasn’t up to me, or him, or anyone else. But the least I could do was try. Sonia wiped the tears from my cheeks, and I stood, bringing my hands together as if I were about to pray. Please, I begged, take me to him. I suddenly felt as if I were choking. My eyes felt as if they were being squeezed from my skull, and my chest felt as if it were being crushed between the hands of a giant. I lifted one of my hands to reach for my throat, and noticed my once transparent body beginning to regain its physical flesh. The flesh began to grow over the ghastly transparency of my extremities, and gave an agonizing, burning sensation. I cried in pain and began to choke on the air I was breathing, and the spirits passing on to their next life began to take notice of my struggle. I assumed I wasn't hallucinating at that point. “Sonia?” I heard a voice---a familiar voice. Soft like a cloud, and steady like a river. “Sonia, is that you?” I heard heavy footsteps as I began to lose consciousness. Someone was running. “Rauru?” My eyelids began to grow heavy, as if there were weights attached to them, bringing them only to fall faster. I felt as if I were falling backward, my feet eventually leaving the ground. “Is that–?” “Yes,” Sonia responded, “Zelda is going home.” ℓιηк “Link!” The tone of the voice felt like a punch in the gut. I felt the color drain from my face. I felt the pain of the loss rush over me like a wave would over the sand. Time seemed to slow suddenly. My vision was blurred as I looked up and into the cloudy sky of Hyrule Field, and my breath seemed to grow shallow. It was as if she was right next to me, between the jaws of the beast beside my poor, mangled body. I saw something---a flicker of motion in the corner of my eye, a ripple in the calm waters of the horizon amidst the golden hour. “Zelda,” I breathe, whispering her name so soft it was almost like a prayer---because it was. Just that moment was enough. Despite the ache of my muscles and the exhaustion, I summoned all my strength, attempting to find a way out from between the dragon’s teeth, each of them being just as large as a wagon. I heard a cry from the distance, looking up to see her—the Light Dragon—racing towards our draconified foe. The Demon Dragon roared, a fearsome and deafening bellow, and without much more effort needed, I was knocked free from within its jaws. I spread my arms to slow my descent, taking a moment to catch my bearings and breathe fresh air. I heard another roar—but it was softer, more delicate, comparable to a flower petal. I craned my neck around to see the Light Dragon racing toward me as I fell. Ganondorf saw her attempt in an instant, and lunged at her, his aim on her neck. She dodged him effortlessly, swinging back around to catch me. As I made contact with the soft fur on the top of her head, I could already begin to feel my strength return to me. I felt my cuts and scrapes being healed and sealed over with new skin, and the exhaustion in my muscles was gone in an instant. “Link, can you hear me?” The voice echoed in my head. “Zelda?” I realized. “Is it really–” “Yes,” her voice laughed, and I felt the dragon shake simultaneously in what must be laughter as well. A tear escaped the corner of my eye as I pressed my fore head to the head of the great creature from which I clung, racing forward in the sky. “You really know how to make me wait, don’t you?” Her laugh echoed again, resonating in my skull. “I’m sorry, Link. I’ll make it up to you.” ☾ ──────── ➷ ───────» ✧ /!\ P0L1CY ᵐʸ ʷʳⁱᵗⁱⁿᵍ ⁱˢ ⁿᵒᵗ ᵗᵒ ᵇᵉ ᵘˢᵉᵈ ᵒʳ ˢᵗᵒˡᵉⁿ ᵇʸ ᵃⁿʸᵒⁿᵉ ʷⁱᵗʰᵒᵘᵗ ᵖᵉʳᵐⁱˢˢⁱᵒⁿ. ⁱᶠ ᴵ ᶠⁱⁿᵈ ᵗʰᵃᵗ ᵃⁿʸᵒⁿᵉ ᵃᵗ ᵃˡˡ ʰᵃˢ ᵇᵉᵉⁿ ᵘˢⁱⁿᵍ ᵐʸ ʷʳⁱᵗⁱⁿᵍ ⁱⁿ ᵃⁿʸʷᵃʸ ʷⁱᵗʰᵒᵘᵗ ᵖʳᵒᵖᵉʳ ᶜʳᵉᵈⁱᵗ, ᴵ ʷⁱˡˡ ⁿᵒᵗ ʰᵉˢⁱᵗᵃᵗᵉ ᵗᵒ ʳᵉᵖᵒʳᵗ ʸᵒᵘ. ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏˢ ᶠᵒʳ ᵘⁿᵈᵉʳˢᵗᵃⁿᵈⁱⁿᵍ! ✉ credits┇ ₍ᐢ⑅ ̥ ̮ ̥ᐢ₎ music ☁ nintendo; @Zelda_Of_Hyrule descr ☁ me, @--peace- thumb ☁ me; art found online ☾ ──────── ➷ ───────» ✧ ⌗ ☄ tags┇ignore ༘° #sneakyWulf2811 #tloz #the #legend #of #zelda #fanfic #fanfiction #chapter #67 #link #zelink #breath #of #the #wild #tears #of #the #kingdom ᴀʟʟ ᴇʟᴇᴍᴇɴᴛꜱ ʙᴇʟᴏɴɢ ᴛᴏ ɴɪɴᴛᴇɴᴅᴏ.
