Arrow keys to change the direction W and S to zoom A and D to twist
I've been getting interested in Doctor Who again and decided to find a way to replicate the "howlaround" effect from the original intros in Scratch. Not just replicating the effect by drawing the shapes and calling it "howlaround", actual howlaround. How howlaround works is basically a type of video feedback- basically pointing a camera at a monitor that is displaying what the camera sees, so that the camera is looking into its own playback, creating a sort of looping image. I accomplished this through use of clones to create the "echoes". I added controls that simulate moving the "camera" around, zooming in and out, tilting it, to emulate the effect that the camera would have on the feedback. A thing about howlaround is that the more "echoes" there are the more they decay and lose detail. I decided to use the pixelate effect to simulate this loss of detail. It gives a more "blocky" look, but it was all I could really use. The thing about howlaround is that it needs something to feed into it, and that goes double for digital howlaround without any physical camera. In the olden days Bernard Lodge would actually feed patterns and/or images into the video mixer to affect the howlaround, most notably the Doctor Who title text. So I decided to make a very simple Doctor Who logo for the base. If you want, you can copy the effect (just make sure to credit me) and add your own "base" in place of it. I might do more tests with this effect...
