NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS SONG The following description, excluding a couple sentences, is made in Flat.io Now, I wrote this on a scenic getaway to the mountains. I'd read off the back of a book that I'd bought the opening lines of the song: "Find a penny pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck..." The melody had slapped itself onto those words and I couldn't seem to shake it. Song Backstory: I think I was drowning in regret at the time I wrote it. Unlike most of mine, this wasn't exactly directed to a certain person. I just wanted to capture that relatable feeling of remorse and embarrassment. Even the little humiliating things stick in my mind. I can't post the lyrics because it makes the description (on Flat.io) too long, but other than remorse, I wanted to show a change. After that stormy instrumental part, the closing line is "I won't do this anymore." You could interpret that many different ways--but since it's repeated in every chorus of the song, you can see the arc of change if you see the full picture. I could go on about the meaning all the time, but now I want to bring up the title: NO CATS WERE HARMED IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING THIS SONG!!! "Kick the Cat" is a metaphor for misplaced aggression, which I used as the title not just because it's a detail in one of my lines about "not even having the energy to 'kick the cat,'" but because it subtly suggests that I'm doing this to myself and the other people who made me regret the stuff I did probably don't ever give it a second thought. I'd like everyone who feels the same to know that it's okay, and there's a way out of it.
