⭑ DISCLAIMER ⭑ The interpretation is long. I also had to do some typos because some words scratch wouldn't let me type. ⭑ I n t e r p r e t a t i o n 1. SPRING DAY MEANING: When reading the lyrics, Spring Day by BTS sounds like a song about missing a close friend. While it is a universal song about longing or missing someone, there are hidden layers that have made this song famously known for referring to the 2014 Sewol Ferry trgedy, which unfortunately climed the lives of 250(and 54 non-students) high school students. (When I first heard the meaning to this song, I cried.) Some key imagery includes the eternal winter which represents the frozen grif of their families, while the ocean imagery honors the youth who rst in the cold waters. The quote shown on the thumbnail reflects a promise that healing (spring) will return. 2. OUTFIT INTERPRETATION a. School Uniform - The white collared shirt and the dark blue pleated skirt directly honor the high school students. The dark blue also symbolizes the dark, heavy depths of the ocean. b. Sweater - This sweater would be layered on top to represent the lighter surface waves, the contrast to the darkness underneath. It acts like a warm blanket against the bitter winter of grif. c. Footwear - These white canvas sneakers (with crew socks) is also a direct nod to the students. However, it is one of the main symbols in the Spring Day MV by BTS that shows a link between Spring Day & Sewol Ferry Trgedy. Jimin, a BTS member, finds these sneakers washed up on shore, which is a direct nod to the students. He eventually hangs them on a special tree. d. Necklace - The necklace represents the final shot of the music video, where the shoes Jimin found are hung as a monument of eternal memory. e. Yellow Ribbon - Yellow ribbon is the universal symbol for the Sewol victms. 3. WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS? I could've chosen a different song (preferably BTS) and have written my own storyline/analysis, like I did with BTS' Swim on my old account. However, Spring Day was the first to come to mind, and it felt wrong to abandon that idea for a creative storyline, which even though fun, does not match the cultural weight of this song. I wanted to use this chance by using this platform to spread awareness about these young lives because, in my opinion, it felt more meaningful than making an aesthetic outfit. In short, I wanted this outfit to carry a message of remembrance and respect to the students and those who were griving. And a universal reminder, spring will always come and go, but even when winter hits, remember, no season is eternal, and spring will come again.
