the spop community has been running on high energy for a long time, and honestly, it’s starting to show. people are tired, stressed, overwhelmed, and constantly plugged into every little update, every rumor, every conflict, every new project, every drama spike. it’s a lot. and it’s okay to admit that it’s a lot. communities aren’t supposed to operate at maximum intensity every single day. people aren’t supposed to be glued to their screens waiting for the next thing to go wrong. that’s not healthy, and it’s not sustainable. so i want to talk about what we, as a community, need to do to take care of ourselves and each other. not just for today, not just for this moment, but for the long run. first, we need to normalize taking breaks. not the kind of break where you close the tab for ten minutes and then come right back because you’re scared you’ll miss something. i mean real breaks. hours. days. weeks if you need it. scratch isn’t going anywhere. the community isn’t going anywhere. your projects, your friends, your ideas , they’ll all still be here when you come back. you don’t have to be online every single day to be part of the community. you don’t have to respond to everything instantly. you don’t have to carry the weight of every situation on your shoulders. sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is step away and breathe. and if you feel guilty for taking a break, that’s even more proof that you need one. you’re not responsible for keeping the community running. you’re not responsible for fixing every problem. you’re not responsible for being “on” all the time. you’re a person, not a machine. you deserve rest. you deserve quiet. you deserve time where you’re not thinking about spop or scratch or drama or projects or anything else. you deserve to exist outside of the internet. limiting scratch time is another thing we need to talk about. it’s easy to fall into the habit of refreshing your messages every few minutes, checking notifications constantly, hopping from project to project, scrolling through comments, and staying stuck in a loop. it feels productive, but it’s draining. it eats up your day without you realizing it. it makes you feel like you’re always “on call,” like you can’t step away because something might happen. but that’s not healthy. you should be able to enjoy scratch without feeling trapped by it. and if you feel like you need a hiatus, take one. don’t wait until you’re burnt out. don’t wait until you’re overwhelmed. don’t wait until you’re frustrated or upset or drained. take a hiatus when you feel the early signs of burnout, not when you’re already deep in it. hiatuses aren’t dramatic. they’re not a sign of weakness. they’re not a sign that you’re giving up. they’re a sign that you care about yourself enough to step back before things get worse. they’re a sign that you’re mature enough to recognize your limits. they’re a sign that you’re human. another thing the community needs to work on is being careful about what we put online. scratch feels safe, but it’s still the internet. once something is posted, it’s out there. people can screenshot it, share it, misunderstand it, twist it, or take it out of context. even if you delete it, someone might still have it saved. so we need to be mindful. think before you post. think before you comment. think before you share personal information. think before you get involved in drama. think before you say something you might regret later. you don’t have to share everything you feel. you don’t have to respond to every situation. you don’t have to explain yourself to strangers. you don’t have to defend yourself against every rumor. you don’t have to prove anything. sometimes silence is the best choice. sometimes stepping away is the best choice. sometimes not engaging is the best choice. you don’t owe the internet your vulnerability. and when it comes to drama, we need to stop feeding it. drama only grows when people give it attention. when people talk about it nonstop. when people panic. when people spread rumors. when people make assumptions. when people jump into arguments without knowing the full story. when people let fear or anger take over. drama thrives on reaction. it thrives on chaos. it thrives on people who can’t let go. we’re allowed to move on. we’re allowed to breathe. we’re allowed to rest. we’re allowed to take care of ourselves. and we should.
