I wrote the melody and lyrics a long, LONG, time ago. Based on other people's interpretations of just the melody, it obviously must sound like a very happy song. Same lyricwise, but note that words like "I'm a ray of sunshine and that will always be mine" can sound different depending on how you say/sing them. Despite the happy melody, I aim to give off a defensive, almost angry undertone. Like, "this is my last hope, you can't take this from me." And that's true: this song is not about self-confidence or arrogance, but about the incredibly relatable feeling of trying to convince yourself that you're still "you" after everything others have done to make you feel otherwise. It's okay to change. Just do it on your own accord.
