ok buffer so you can see warnings lalallalalal okay no bad words detected so far 13th October, 2017 Cecily Smith knew she was being haunted. She had done her research, read hundreds of books about the unexplained and supernatural. She had heard the scratching, felt the chills and seen the mist on the bathroom mirrors. The only question she had was why. Why would a ghost be haunting her of all people? She was a normal girl, right? After school she decided to learn more about famous hauntings, to see whether she could work out why this ghost decided on her for a target. Even though her friends at school tried to talk her out of it, she knew. It was the type of knowing that you felt deep in your gut, without an explanation. “Pa, could I use the computer?” Cecily called as she walked through the doorway, but she received no reply. Odd. Pa is usually home by now, she thought, but not today. Aren’t both cars here? That’s weird. She decided to check the computer anyway, the worst her father could say was “Get off.”, he wouldn’t punish her. Eventually, Cecily grew bored of scrolling through what felt like hundreds of Wikipedia articles, and thousands of other sources. The moon was bound to be high in the sky after all she did was waste her time without getting any real answers. She leaned back from the white screen, but the sky hadn’t changed a bit. It was still as blue and clear as when she got home. If anything had changed, the sun looked slightly higher. That was a bit freaky, but Cecily didn’t usually get freaked out by something just odd. Usually she got freaked out by blood or organs. Thinking about that is not helping, she reminded herself. This wasn’t helping. Cecily tried to call her friends, but to no avail. None of them would pick up - not even Rosa, her closest friend since year three. But after months of keeping it hush-hush, Cecily decided to tell Rosa personally, the scratching and mist had been driving her crazy. Pedaling through her town, Cecily realised no-one else was out, apart from a murder of crows, which looked like they were pecking on something. Probably something disgusting, like they always do. Ring-a-ding-ding! Cecily rang her friend’s cheerful doorbell, and waited. She thought she heard wailing coming from inside the house, but when Rosa came out, she denied everything and looked very confused, so Cecily decided to drop the topic. “So anyway, you remember what I said about being haunted?” she asked when they finally got inside and had snacks. Rosa nodded, so she continued “I tried to do more research, but I didn’t find anything, and Pa wasn’t home, so I decided to come round. Do you have any ideas?” Rosa thought for a moment, then grabbed a book from her stash - or ‘collection’ as she liked to call it - with a purple and black cover. “I bought this in a yard sale a few months ago, well more like a year.” she sheepishly laughed a little. She placed the book in Cecily’s hands, the cover read A Ghosthunter’s Guide - Why Are You Being Haunted?. “Thanks so much! You’re the best, you know that.” Cecily turned to thank Rosa, but she was gone. Not in the room still, and Cecily hadn’t heard the door open at all. Again, another oddity happened that same day. Laying in bed that night, with the new moon shining upon her, Cecily stared at the ceiling “Why are you haunting me?” she asked, “That stupid book didn’t tell me anything.” To her shock, she heard a whooshing before an apparition appeared, in the shape of a woman not too much older than herself. The figure was translucent and pale-skinned. “It’s because I’m you.” “You’re me? What on Earth do you mean, I’m me!” Cecily began to wonder whether this was a figment of her wild imagination, before denying that possibility. She would have to hear her out. “Every few centuries, another Cecily Smith is born to a couple. Every few centuries, that same Cecily Smith is haunted by the one that came before her. Every few centuries, we have the opportunity to change that. But we all fail to do so.” “Save all this anxiety? Why didn’t you do that for me?” “You will be set an impossible task, one that you can never accomplish. Trust me, I asked too. And so did the Cecily before that, and before that.” “I can do anything!” “You have to mvrd3r Rosa.” “I have too- what? That’s evil!” “We all have to hurt the ones we l0ve, and the question is, will you finally resolve this pain for something bigger than yourself, or not?” 13th October, 2063 “We gather here today to mourn the de of Cecily Emma Smith, loved by everyone here.” Rosa Zharkia blinked back tears as she said these words to the crowd. People were sobbing already. “Though she was a bit crazy at times, she always did the right thing, and put others first.” Those words weren’t true. But Cecily had no way of telling Rosa. For she was about to return to the ground.
