But no one knew the ㅤhidden history that truly kept her words locked away." ㅤ── ── ─ㅤㅤㅤ── ── ─ㅤㅤ── ── ─ㅤㅤ── ── ─ㅤ── The sun peeked over the horizon, its luminescent rays painting the sky in pink and orange hues. Time passed, before the sun had fully come to light, indicating the early morning hours. The birds chirped a serene, melodious tune as they soared across the sky. Sleeping in an undisturbed state of tranquility, Elise's alarm had set off. Her porcelain face was illustrated with innocence and soft features. Her carmine-red curls were sprawled over her pillow, and one hand lay beneath her rosy cheeks. She lived a little similarly to others, going to school, doing things she loves. But one thing no one understands, the grieve which is engraved in her heart. A grieve she's been carrying for years and years, and she had no one to tell. Her father had a tragic work accident. He worked as a constructor. She lost her father at the age of 2. Her mother at the age of 6 after having a challenging battle with cancer. She now lived with her foster father, Callum. He had never done anything to offend or hurt Elise, however, she was always hesitant to let him in. The worst thing is, Elise is mute. After witnessing many things which shattered her world, she hasn't been able to break the psychological wall which have been confining her. She hasn't talked in years. And communicating with words was a monumental struggle. Therapists and doctors weren't enough, she simply embraced quietness. Unable to encourage herself to speak, her words remained hidden, and so did the world which brought her profound suffering. The sound of her alarm blaring had roused her awake. She climbed out of bed to hush the unbearable ring. She commenced her day with her usual routine. Once she finished using the bathroom and brushing her teeth, she went to her drawer for her uniform. There was a few weeks left before school ends. Wrapped in the gentle comfort of her uniform, she smoothed the pristine shirt and its soft saffron-red tie, adjusting the silky black blazer and velvety grey skirt that rested neatly above her cloud-white ivory socks and quiet leather boots. The simplicity of her uniform had given her a touch of royalty and angelic grace. Before her quiet steps met the stairs, she hesitated. This was typical. She knew Callum was downstairs, waiting for her. But she always guarded her quiet, undisturbed world. This was every day, every morning, every routine, a part of her life. She finally drifted downstairs. She entered the kitchen, and Elise and Callum's eyes met. Callum gave her a welcoming smile. "Elise, there you are! I made you something special today!" exclaimed Callum. He eagerly pushed a plate across the table. Elise gave a small smile and sat down at the table. Pancakes were for breakfast! A gentle fragrance from the loaves of pancakes had tingled her nose, the juicy strawberries gleamed in her eyes, and the small drizzle of the chocolate syrup awakened her taste buds and made her drool. She admired her masterpiece before Callum spoke. "Hey Elise, I'm running late for work. I'm sorry, but I hope you like it! Bon Appetit!" he playfully laughed before rushing off. It was obvious he was in a rush; he hadn't finished his coffee and he was moving around frantically. Elise happily indulged in her morning treat. She looked in the mirror once she finished, a tiny drop of chocolate syrup upon her porcelain skin. She wiped it away before departing. She left her house and went to school. Her mind swirled in thoughts. She hated school. People teased her for not talking, sometimes they'd throw paper and food at her. But they never truly understood the concealed ache which clung to her soul and silenced her. These desperate cries, these hesitant decisions, they were all apart of her life. She arrived at school, as usual, people mocked her and called her names. She went to her best friend, Cleo. She waved at her, and Elise waved back. Cleo wore a pair of elegant, dark-rimmed glasses, ones which perfected suited her mafia-like eyes. Her hair was pulled back into a tight bun, paired with a few stray wisps curtaining her hair. Her skin was a striking, ghostly white, possessing a luminous quality that looked beautifully fragile yet dangerously cold. Elise was grateful to have Cleo. She had always defended Elise from harsh comments, studying with her and sharing food like true sisters. But her striking, fierce appearance had warned all passers to never insult her best friend.
Cleo was never liked by people. People deemed her as going overboard. They simply couldn't handle her stubbornness. But overtime, she has changed. From being an overlooked people-pleaser, to an untouchable predator. However, Cleo has a soft side towards Elise. Despite being blind towards Elise's reality, she still had strong sympathy towards her. There was no need to hear stories and perspectives of Elise's life, she didn't need to hear the truth or anything, she just provided Elise with the most decent amount of understanding and comfort Elise had ever felt. They both linked arms and strolled to their class. Cleo exclaimed her exciting plans, whilst glaring at passers who would dare challenge her. Elise listened attentively, unaware of Cleo's dangerous presence intimidating the environment around her. They entered their class and took their seats. The class was almost full. Chattering and lively conversations uplifted the classroom. Elise writes down her plans for the holiday and gives it to Cleo. As Cleo is about to read, the door swings open, revealing the teacher who seems to have an amused smile on her face. Professor Moretti, silenced the room as he approached his desk. But then he halted and turned, still smiling. "Students, I have excellent news for you!" his voice chimed with bright and unusual energy. "Prom dates have been given, it's in 2 days!" The class fell silent, processing the news, before erupting in a spark. Cleo screeched in excitement. She was excited to go with her boyfriend, Kian. Even Elise, quietly cheering inside her. Something she hadn't explained to anyone, not even Cleo, she had a crush... Oliver. He has a captivating charm to his features, but it was his eyes that drew her in. A deep, clear hazel that held a brilliant spark of genuine warmth. They were remarkably observant eyes, framed by long, dark lashes that blinked slowly as he watched the world, completely unaffected by the surroundings. His silky hair with some effortless, casual grace across his forehead. His sun-kissed, olive skin, a breathless blend of golden warmth, his complexion made her heart completely skip a beat. Elise couldn't help but catch a glimpse of his attractive profile. During their break, Elise couldn't mask her excited smile. Cleo noticed. "Eli, what's made you so excited?" she asked curiously. Elise looked around and pointed. It was Oliver. He was listening attentively to his friends. His eyes full of magnetic clarity and sharpness. Cleo gasped. "Oooh Eli!! Look at you! Prom date alert!" she whistled. "You guys would be so cute at prom. Please tell me you’re trying to go to prom together." Elise gave a small nod, paired with her typical beaming smile. "Stop staring and go talk to him. Go confess, you guys would make a good pair awww!" she sarcastically teased Elise, however Elise felt nervous. She shook her head anxiously. "No Eli come on, he HAS to like you. Come let's go tell your lover boy some news." Cleo ushered Elise, although Elise was so wound up she couldn't bring herself to confess. But she didn't push Cleo away. This was her one chance. Probably her only chance. As they approached Oliver, Cleo cleared her throat. "Hey twinky boy, you going to prom?" she said savagely "Yes, but i don't-" "Good, i'm only gonna say this once. Elise likes you and she wants to go to prom with you. So go with her." Elise gripped Cleo's arm in embarrassment and shyness. "You want me to go out with Elise, JUST because she likes me?" "Yes of course, I mean, you two would look ridiculously cute together." Oliver sighed and ran his hand through his delicate hair. Elise noticed it and started to blush. "I hate to break it to you E girl but I'm not hooking up with girls to go to prom." "No no Oliver, don't do this. Be a man-" "Don't you understand? I said no, I'm sorry Elise, you're amazing but this whole going out, dating stuff it's not my thing. I'm not here to attract girls." He walked away, after giving Elise a sorrowful stare. Elise stood there, paralysed with disbelief and shame. Cleo was yelling, cursing, threatening Oliver, but he simply ignored and carried on, like he somehow silenced Cleo's voice. Reality finally crashed down on Elise. She escaped to the bathroom, slamming the door just as the tears she had been desperately holding back finally spilled over. Cleo sprinted after her, but the damage was done. Oliver’s rejection had shattered something in Elise, leaving her, yet again, with a quiet, hollow ache that felt impossible to mend... ㅤ── ── ─ㅤㅤㅤ── ── ─ㅤㅤ── ── ─ㅤㅤ── ── ─ㅤ── ㅤ⪩ THE ENDㅤㅤ。 story written by emineㅤ꒰。ᴗ͈_ᴗ͈꒱ა ㅤ୨୧ㅤchapter 2ㅤ..
