Sol was one of the leading scientists in engineering the Hail Mary. Back on Earth, sea hurt some people. Not physically, but they weren't kind at all to the other workers below them. Worse than just unkind. Sea was stressed but didn't want to face the people who he had wronged. So, as any good person would do, they fled the planet and stowed away on the Hail Mary. Now, they have to pretend like sol just joined for the 'adventure'.
