(Press Space for stuff) In the flooded highlands of China and the Isles of Sino-Japan, a new apex takes to the seas and trees. The Hǎi Rì Bear (Helarctos sinomaris), otherwise known as the Sunset Bear, is a descendant of the Sun Bear, which made a large recovery after the extinction of humans. The extinction of humans also gave rise to a new habitat that you may be familiar with: the Flooded Highlands. Sunset Bears have turned from insectivores to absolute omnivores. They feast on sea bee honey, sea bees and other insects, fish, gilded lotuses, clams and mollusks, and occasionally golden pandas and kintsugi pheasants. They will eat whatever they get their ravenous hooves- I mean, paws on. They will use their super long tongues to hunt for clams and mollusks while keeping their heads above the water. They also have a third eyelid for when they do dive underwater, though it is quite thin. While Sunset Bears spend most of their day near deltas and seas, they're still very able to climb. They like to nest in trees, laying across branches and extending their tongues down lazily. This helps them regulate their body temperatures and potentially act as sticky bug traps. Feed well, indeed!
Thanks to @SeaCheesez and @Alien_Projects for help concepting, and thanks to @Alien_Projects for his Golden Panda and Kintsugi pheasents!
