I guess this is just a short excerpt of a story? No I haven't written the rest the story and nothing really happens in this short part lol. It's supposed to take place in 1960s Indiana and is told from the perspective of an 8 almost 9 year old girl. So I would love feedback/to hear what you think <3 In the first week of summer, we had always gone to visit Mama Lou and our cousins out in Zephyr. There was always fresh food made by Aunt Ned, Aunt Florence or Mama Lou. We'd play all day doing this or that or something else, or maybe go hunting if someone'd take us. Every night we'd all be called in for supper at Uncle John's house and eat at several different tables. The adults at one, always talking seriously and always slightly strained. Someone'd say something backhanded at someone. And then several different scattered tables that sat kids, But there was always one night where we'd eat outside and grill hot dogs and s'mores on a fire. Us younger kids would be running around with sparklers and the older kids would talk with the adults. It was different from the rest of the summer, but I always looked forward to it. But this year we weren't going the first week of summer and this year we weren't going for fun times. Last November, Mama Lou had gotten real sick and by Christmas she'd passed. We were going to her funeral. ⠀⠀Last summer after Mama Lou had a stroke, Bob had told me things were gonna start changing. Mama Lou was only getting older. Jack was headed off to the army. I was getting older. He had been right.
