LEVEL 1: The Habitable Zone Level 1, commonly known as "The Habitable Zone," is the second level of the backrooms. It's a massive, mutable warehouse and parking garage featuring concrete walls, floors, and exposed rebar. It is officially classified as a low-risk Class 1 environment where wanderers can survive for extended periods. Supplies: Wanders can find crates that can contain supplies like food, water, weapons and much more. These crates are not stationary, and teleport around the level. The Blackout; Occasionally, all of the lights in the level will turn off. During this time, smilers can spawn and roam the level. The duration of the blackout varies from minutes, hours, days, months, or even years. Entities: Entities such as smilers, faceling and other hostile creatures may lurk in the level. It is advised to stay in the lit areas of the levels. Bases: Unlike earlier levels, Level 1 is highly populated by other wanderers. It houses Base Alpha, BNTG Trader Keep and Tom's Diner. Exits: Exploring hallways or staircases can naturally lead you to Level 0 or Level 2. The Hub: Walking up two flights of stairs and immediately walking back down, then navigating specific non-Euclidean passages (Left, Right, and Doors A/B) will take you to The Hub. Secret Exits: No-clipping into walls with electrical outlets can lead to Level 188. Entrances: Noclipping / Exiting level 0 can lead one here. If you happen to be on Level 25, you can enter Level 1 directly by interacting with an arcade machine explicitly labeled "Level 1". You can also enter by finding a hidden passage located inside one of the storage units in The Trader's Vault Level 0.
