For those who don't know, today (June 19) is Juneteenth. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, TX, to announce that the Civil War had ended and that the more than 250,000 enslaved people in the state were free, 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect. (It wasn't enforceable in Texas due to the state being in the Confederacy, and being the most western state in the CSA. They had to wait until Union soldiers made it to Texas.)
