Chapter 4 Everything seemed to be going well for Liz until something unfortunate happened. Liz, Marc, Erica and Kevin had gotten really close to Jessica. Though Jessica, at times, had a sharp tongue, she had a likeable character. Liz was starting to really enjoy school until she lost the lady who ran the orphanage. Bright Stars Orphanage was ran by Mrs. Jones. Mrs. Jones gladly offered to take care of Elizabeth and her younger sister, Emelia, when their parents had abandoned them using the excuse that they did not have enough to make a living and take care of them. Mrs. Jones was like a mother to Elizabeth and Emelia. They did not take such a loss lightly at all. Elizabeth grew quieter in class and everyone noticed. Occasionally, Erica and the others went to Liz to comfort her but Liz smiled pretending everything was okay. Among the four, Jessica was the only one who knew Ms. Jones. It turned out Mrs. Jones was actually Jessica 's aunt and they were really close. It was the end of the school day and, as usual, Liz had her head on the table silently crying. Her head ached and her stomach churned. "Liz ?", Marc's voice forced her to look up. Marc saw her tear-stained face and gave a reassuring smile which always made her feel funny on the inside. Liz met Marc's gaze and she quickly cleaned her tears with a dry tissue. Beside Marc stood Jessica; she also looked sad but she managed to give small smile. Marc asked Liz, "I'm leaving. Are you coming?" "Go on ahead without me.", Liz replied and Marc walked out leaving Jessica and Liz in the classroom. Liz couldn't help but smile after Marc, he had been a great help to Liz and she appreciated him. Jessica looked at Liz until her smile turned into more of a glare.
