The NHFCP is the premier power system of the ADN (Andesian Defense Navy). Every surface warfare ship in the fleet, other than the nuclear aircraft carrier, uses such a system. Its fuel is hydrogen power paste (MgH2, look it up, it's very cool) and requires fresh water to release hydrogen gas into the fuel cell, as well as oxygen from the air to react with the hydrogen to produce electricity. Benefits: -High energy density -Safer than gaseous/liquid hydrogen -Easier to store and less complex than gaseous/liquid hydrogen -Low noise and emissions -Independent of supplies of petrochemicals -Waste product can be recycled Drawbacks -Sensitive to water damage (MgH2 releases pure, inflammable hydrogen on contact with water) -Manufacturing MgH2 can be difficult and expensive -Engine torque is lower than internal combustion systems -MgH2 is not available at ports abroad (yet) Mfd. by Chevalier Power Systems
This is a simple diagram and does not represent the actual layout in Andesian surface warfare vessels.
