The dark times of scratch 2026 I SWEAR LOL - if you have any more info or things you’d like to add, please let me and others know! Gotta make sure we know what going on Not gonna go too into depth because I’m not quite sure about what’s going on, (at the very least, not sure enough to be saying what you guys should do!!) but I do want to give a brief explanation as to what’s going on and why you should be on the lookout. I’d like to tell you what I’m doing, and the answer is not much. If it gets worse, I may move to my alt (@_lnk_) or take a hiatus. If it gets better, we’re good! For now I’ll be avoiding any suspicious projects, and you should too!!! Two sections: -what’s going on? -what you should do What’s going on? -you’ve probably heard this already. A bunch of people are hacking scratch using (I think) a weird script in its programming. (Read @_-summer-tansy-_’s comment, it has a better description!!) -they’re hacking accounts by getting people to look into projects. These projects (when looked inside) will often have inappropriate links or content. -a hacked project will most likely have a message somewhere telling you to go inside the projects, but you should refrain from looking inside projects in general, just in case. -once someone is hacked / you are hacked, they / you will have activity that isn’t your own and shared projects that you didn’t make. If you were out and didn’t check scratch and came back to odd activity, you were most likely hacked. -hacking is DANGEROUS. They will try to take personal information such as your age, address, and email. DONT try to get hacked. -this is purely my thoughts and speculation for a moment, take it as a grain of salt, I think the opening / weird script that let them do this may have something to do with all the updates scratch has been making. Like they forgot to fix something in the scripts and a bunch of hackers are using it. Again, these are just my thoughts, and it’s completely possible that the hackers just, well hacked scratch on their own. What you should do: -don’t ever look inside projects! Even if they don’t say “look inside” there’s always a chance that they have been hacked, and you shouldn’t take that risk. -if you feel it won’t be too big of an issue for you, go on with your life. If you feel a little unsafe, try using an alt for the time being! If you feel scared and like it will be a big issue for you, I’d recommend taking a hiatus until it has all brewed over. -change your passwords / emails! Even though they are most likely safe, do it as a precaution! I did. -going into a project that has been hacked will automatically send you a message that you’ve been hacked and then start doing stuff to your profile- this is based on others experiences so if you know this is wrong please tell me! -going into a project signed out will not hack you as far as i can see, but you still shouldn’t try it in case they could get access to your device. All in all, if you have to ask if this is safe about something like this, don’t do it! -it’s a shame that I have to say this again, but DONT. DONT. Don’t try to be hacked. Even if you’re on an alt with nothing on it. A lot of people have been trying to just to see it, but they will try to take your personal info, and your email is enough, which is something scratch requires when making any account. Someone has apparently gotten doxxed because of this. Hackers will not only mess with your activity; so don’t try to be hacked. -new accounts may be said to be safe, and while they’re safer, you should still NOT try to be hacked because they will try to see info through your device, as well as email given through that account. All in all, don’t try to be hacked. -IF YOU HAVE BEEN HACKED; clear your device, change your passwords, unshare potentially hacked projects and make an explanation as to that you were hacked. After that, id recommend making a completely new account, (not an alt) and staying there until scratch cleans it up, or just taking a break. You never know if you’re completely safe after being hacked, so id recommend not staying on a previously hacked account besides to let people know that it WAS and MAY BE hacked. I ended up writing a lot more than expected, but here we are!! This is a big issue, and iirc scratch team is currently doing their best to fix it. TLDR; refrain from clicking anything suspicious, looking inside ANY project or interacting with hacked or potentially hacked projects. Thanks, stay safe!
