(“Lunar. Always make sure your choice is what your kardiá tells you.”) ~~~ Lunar told Reyna that she would walk with her. She put her bow away then followed Reyna. They walked out towards the edge of camp for a bit before Reyna said, “Lunar, there was something your mother brought up, that I wanted to tell you about.” Lunar nodded, motioning for her to continue. “Your mother is planning on asking you to join the Hunters of Artemis.” Lunar looked slightly shocked, but also as though she had expected as much. “I sort of figured. She’s led them for years, it would only make sense.” Lunar said. There was a lull in conversation, until they reached the edge of camp. “Will you accept?” Reyna asked. Lunar took a while to think about it. She knew that joining the Hunters of Artemis would be a huge commitment. She knew that if she joined them, she would never fall in love, never get married, and forsake the company of men pretty much. As Lunar was thinking it over, a face appeared in her mind. Kai. He was handsome, and Lily had told Lunar so many good things about him. She was falling in love with him from what she had heard, and with his handsome face. Lunar knew that she couldn’t vow to not fall in love. Not at her age. Maybe in the future, after she’d had time to fall in love, be rejected even. “No. I don’t think I will.” Lunar replied finally. Reyna nodded. “I think that’s the smart choice. After what happened to you… You haven’t had time to live life with any sense of normalcy. You need time.” Lunar murmured her agreement. And this conversation had made her realize she wanted to spend more time with the Winters twins. Lily was kind, and funny. Kai, she had been told, was kind, and quick to listen. They walked back towards the center of camp quietly. Once they reached Artemis Cabin, they said their farewells, Reyna said they should hang out a bit before she left, and Lunar agreed. Lunar walked back to Hermes Cabin, whistling an old tune. Once she reached her cabin, she decided to stay outside for a while. She sat down on the porch steps and sang an old song her Papa had taught her. “Deíxe mou tin kardiá sou,pes mou tin istoría sou.Chreiázomai ti voítheiá sou, gia na mátho ti zoí tou.Voíthisé me se parakaló, palió mou fílo.Istoría tragoudioú, kardiá omoiokatalixías.” Lunar continued the song, closing her eyes and letting the rhythm fill her. Until she felt a presence by her side. “That’s a nice song. How are you?” Kai had sat down next to her on the steps. “Oh, hi! I’m ok… What about you?” Lunar replied, slightly nervously. They hadn’t really talked since their first meeting. “I’m good. Had to get a knife wound patched up after capture-the-flag. What’s that song about?” He asked. “It’s about a young girl, asking a friend for advice on life.” Lunar said, memories flooding her head of her Papa. “It’s nice. Keep singing?” He requested, and Lunar looked at him. He looked like he really wanted to hear the rest of it. So she continued singing. “An éprepe na dialéxo anámesa stin kardiá kai to myaló, agápi mou, tha échana ta logiká mou.I kardiá mou eínai to móno prágma pou chreiázetai na xéro, óti eínai o idanikós gia ména. To myaló mou moú léei óti den ton chreiázomai, allá aftí den eínai i alítheia.” Lunar took a deep breath, she was on the last verse. She remembered learning it from her Papa. “Afoú ton chreiázomai, tha akolouthíso tin kardiá mou. Agápi mou, eímai kath' odón, pes mou póte na se synantíso. Pes mou pós na agapíso, pós na nióso aftá ta nekrá synaisthímata pou échoun fýgei pro polloú apó tin psychí mou.Tha férei píso aftá ta nekrá synaisthímata, pou échoun fýgei apó tin kardiá mou. Pou échoun anastitheí kai échoun fýgei apó to myaló kai tin psychí mou. Tha ta zontanépsei, me tin agápi Tou, tóso dokimasméni kai alithiní.” Kai smiled when she finished. “Those lyrics took quite a turn.” He said. “Yes, they did, didn't they?” Lunar said, smiling back at him. They both turned to look up at the stars that had started to turn up in the sky. “My Papa told me once that my mother reminded him of the stars.” Lunar said, then paused. “Chiron told you about what happened, yes?” She asked. She saw Kai nod out of the corner of her eye. “Yeah. He explained the entire situation to us. Said you could use some friends who understand the whole situation.” He paused, and Lunar could tell there was something else. “I’m slightly offended that Lily already knew though. You could have told me.” He added quietly. Lunar was surprised, she hadn’t expected that. “Lily only knew because she overheard me talking to Percy. He was the one who brought me here. Annabeth knew, because apparently she’s very special.” Kai nodded again. He took a deep breath, then said. “Well, I’m glad I know now. Maybe we can hang out sometime?” He said nervously. “Yes. I’d like that.” Lunar said quietly.
