(“Your mother reminded me of the stars.”) ~~~ Lunar followed Kai quietly to the archery range. Neither of them said a word. Once they reached the archery range, “Do you think you could climb that tree?” He asked, pointing at a tree in view of a target while Lunar was grabbing her bow. Lunar nodded, then slung the bow and a quiver over her shoulder. She walked to the tree, then started to climb it. Lunar had expected some difficulty, but was able to climb the tree with ease. After a moment, she reached a branch fairly high up when Kai called to her “Lunar! That’s high enough!” Lunar stopped climbing and situated herself on the branch. Once she was situated, she followed her process of shooting. Nock the arrow, pull back, deep breath, and release. The arrow hit the center of the target. Kai called up, “Lunar! Do it again, see if you can do your usual!” Lunar was confused for a moment, then she realized he meant splitting the first arrow. Lunar nocked her second arrow, shot again, hit the target, and split the first arrow. “Lunar, shoot again!” Kai called up. Lunar shot and split the second arrow, then shot again, split the third arrow. Kai called up for her to come down. Once Lunar was at the bottom, she asked, “How did I do?” Kai replied, "Impressively. Let’s go tell Annabeth.” They walked back to the training arena in silence. When they arrived, Kai went to tell Annabeth what had happened. Lunar followed slowly, wondering how she was so good at archery. When Lunar reached Annabeth, Kai, and Percy, the two who hadn’t been there looked shocked at Lunar’s archery skills. “Lunar, do you want to play sniper with a bow and arrow during capture-the-flag?” Lunar nodded fervently. Percy laughed at Lunar head shaking so fast before saying, “Careful, Lunar! You might get whiplash!” Annabeth stifled a laugh, and Kai conveniently looked away. Lunar shook her head and laughed as well, she hadn’t expected such enthusiasm from herself! “I guess archery is the thing I have enjoyed the most since I arrived here. It’s thrilling being able to do something so well.” Lunar said. “Well, you might be the best archer in camp, Lunar. Even better than Chiron!” Annabeth laughed. “Capture-the-flag is this afternoon, we only have about an hour and a half until we start.” Percy said, trying to steer them back to seriousness. “Right.” Annabeth nodded while saying. “I think we have our strategy planned out now.” Annabeth called out, “Campers! Go get some rest, meet back here in 45 minutes! Head counselors, it’s your job to make sure they’re back by then.” All the campers started dispersing to their cabins, Lunar waved goodbye to Annabeth, Percy, and Kai. Then jogged off to join the Hermes Campers on the way to their cabin. When they reached Hermes Cabin, they all went to their bunks and started doing their own thing. Lunar wrote in her journal, then decided to sketch a bit in the back. Lunar had done a little bit of art in Delos, but good art supplies were expensive. Lunar had loved drawing with ash on the stone outside her oikos. She wondered what it looked like in Delos now, given it had been over 2000 years since she had been there. Lunar hoped she would get to see it again, once things had settled down a bit. There weren't very many people she would miss from Delos, except her Papa. No one had wanted to be friends or acquaintances with her, because she didn’t know her mother. In Delos, not knowing your mother had many consequences, but the social scorn might have been the worst of all. In divorce cases, the child always went to their mother. People whose mother died were given many condolences and special treatment. It was unheard of for a mother to leave her child with their father. That was why Lunar’s Papa tried so hard to be a good father, because people rarely accepted Lunar because she lived with just her dad, and didn’t know her mother. In this time, people like that are much more accepted. It would be a change for Lunar, but she knew she could make it through. Her Papa had always taught her to be strong, and to never let others tell her what she can or can’t do. Lunar was deep in thought when Connor called out to the cabin in English, then motioned to Lunar that it was time to go. *Here we go,*Lunar thought.
