Just days ago, he would‘ve brushed crying off as pathetic, but now? Minutes ago, he had been trotting towards the camp exit, fully unaware of the surprise that awaited him. He had help back a scream, and immediately kneeled down beneath the limp body of a lost friend. Cactusprickle. It wasn’t supposed to happen. He closed his eyes, hoping, innerly screaming that this was a dream. That his life was a dream, the past moons, everything- he didn’t want it to be real. Did they suffer? Were they scared? He rammed his claws into the frozen ground, a hoarse whine escaping from his lips as the floor beyond him felt to tilt further and further until it released him into the void. Staggering, he glanced at the body, eventually lifting a paw to tap kaki‘s snout, but hesitated. Afraid of the truth. Afraid of accepting it. It wasn’t fair! Why wasn’t he here before it happened? Couldn’t he have been faster? Deep down, he knew that there was nothing he could’ve done, but he couldn’t accept it. He dropped onto the snowy ground as the world around him began to blur, shivering while salty, cold, burning drops of tears rolled down his cheeks. Kaki had been pretty much his only friend, and this was the last thing he was going to accept. He pulled his lips back, barring his fangs as a low growl began to rumble in his throat. Hadn’t he done everything to help his dying clan? Wasn’t it /enough/? Was what /kaki/ had done for his clan not enough? When would it /ever/ be enough? Slowly, the cold, unpleasant lake inside him began to seathe. Flames, flames that had been filling him up ever since mossclan got that lazy, burst into an inferno. Sloth. That’s what it was. Mossclan was a cuddle pile of weak cats that were all going to succumb one by one. And he didn’t know whether to cry or laugh about. I‘d go back, move on, be fine - except I couldn’t. No cat would ever hold him down. No clan was going to cause him to follow pri into his demise. He could feel himself wilting, like a flower, a sweet, pink flower - except cinovyblade wasn’t a flower. He was dangerous. Deadly, at most. And he had his values- cats he cared about, his closest- and to those that dared to lay a claw on them, including indirectly, wouldn’t get away unsheathed. He watched the damn break, akin to a facade slowly drizzling to the floor. He had seen enough of this. Someone was going to pay for his losses, and it wouldn’t be soon until it‘d happen. Cinovyblade let out a chuckle as he got up to shake his fur, picking up the body with a gentle, but steady grip. He‘d carry him to camp, never taking his eyes off. And later tonight, or tomorrow, or the day after, things would take their place. This had been mossclan‘s last strike. The last thing he’d have to accept. And cinovyblade was patient. He would wait within the shadows until it was his chance- and then he’d bite. Bite until his job was done, then leave this place behind- forever. (ERP)
