The day I decided to howl, I don’t know if it was the best or worst day of my life. To any other, it would have been just another day. A normal day, nothing happening out of the ordinary. For me, it was the day I’d ruin my reputation, my friend’s reputation, and even my class’s reputation. Before I explain, I want you to know that I’m proud of it. I was shouted at. Called a furry. I still hear the echoes of their taunts. But I was brave. I was strong. And looking back, I did what was right. You see, I’m an Alterhuman. A Wolf and Cat Therian and a Fictionkin of Sunny from Wings of Fire. I was alone. I suppose I still am, but there wasn’t a single person who understood me. Parsley, my friend (No, their name wasn’t actually Parsley, but they preferred to be called Parsley), wasn’t really an Alterhuman, though they thought they were one… with really incorrect reasoning. I’ll get back to Parsley later, anyways… We’d come up with a foolproof plan to get back at the bullies. I would howl, they would watch, the bullies would shout, and they would tell a teacher. Except… Parsley never told a teacher, because they (Parsley, not the teachers) were stationed too far away from me to get help. So, I was left alone to howl. Searching in the dark for a nonexistent light. Guiding my own way. My deep brown hair fluttered in the breeze, brushing over the mask I wore that day. I’d made it earlier in English and Math class. In that order. My lightly coloured paws gripped the ground, trying to steady myself when I would never be able to. Oh, right. I never introduced myself. How’s… you know what, call me Howl. That fits, since it’s not too far off from my name, and that’s where I was when I began my story. Wolves are never quiet for long, of course. I returned home, not mentioning any of this to my parents or even to my brother, Aster. Aster uses he/they pronouns, even though everyone thinks he’s just a he/him. It’s annoying, really, that I’m the only one who uses their pronouns correctly. And I don’t even do it when our parents are around, anyways.
