(development has slowly started, most things below are just future scenarios) Based on what Google has said, Paramount Global is protective of the Garfield IP. Even if I re-imagine the lost 90's movie into a game of toned down stakes with original assets to avoid it making competiton with the Garfield shows and movies, Paramount would still get more likely to issue a DMCA the more popular it gets. However, fan uprising may be able to save the project from being permanentley taken down, as seen with the Spongebob Squarepants Movie Rehydrated.
Jim Davis and Paramount Global Forum topic I made for it: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/877598/ If Magu Team grows, and/or someone somehow gets the chance to ask for Jim Davis for support on the project, please go ahead and do so. "no copyright law in this universe is-" (Sonic Colors 2010)
