Legendary Mexican actor and singer Pedro Infante died on April 15, 1957, when a Consolidated B-24J Liberator cargo plane he was co-piloting crashed in Mérida, Yucatán. The plane, a former bomber converted for transporting fish for his company TAMSA, suffered engine failure shortly after takeoff, spiraling down and killing all three on board plus two on the ground.
