Identified by its distinctive three-lobed leaves that protrude through the snow. Preparation: Must be roasted or boiled thoroughly. Raw, it is hard and tasteless. Nutritional Value: Very high in starch. Provides long-lasting energy for flight or hiking. Warning: The leaves are bitter but edible; the stalk is tough and should be discarded. 2. Fire-Root Appearance: A carrot-shaped root with bright orange flesh. It grows in sheltered valleys. Preparation: Can be eaten raw (crunchy) or cooked. Nutritional Value: Sweet and sugary. Provides a quick burst of energy. Medicinal Note: Good for the eyes and immune system. 3. Iron-Knot (Distinct from the medicinal Iron-Knot Root) Appearance: A bulbous, heavy root that resembles a fist. Preparation: Requires long boiling to soften the tough flesh.
