ADVANCED MEDICAL PRACTICES: PART 2 Focus: Cardiovascular, Toxicology, & Trauma III. CARDIOVASCULAR & TOXICOLOGY 4. Manual Isotope Filtering (Blood Purge) Condition: Severe Radiation Sickness or Isotope Poisoning (from Quantum Brain overload or environmental hazards). The Kidneys have shut down. Procedure: You must physically filter the blood. This involves cutting into a major artery, draining the poisoned blood into a container with Isotope-Sponge Lichen, and cycling it back into the body. Requirements: Tubing, containers, Isotope-Sponge Lichen. Dice Roll: Success (14+): Toxins removed. Kidney function resumes. Fail (5-13): The filtering is imperfect. The patient survives but suffers chronic pain (-5 Constitution). Crit Fail (1-4): Air enters the bloodstream or infection spikes. Patient dies of embolism or sepsis. IV. TRAUMA & AMPUTATION 5. Field Amputation (The Flap Method) Condition: Limb is crushed, frozen solid (gangrene), or bleeding uncontrollably. Procedure: The Flap: Instead of cutting straight across, cut a U-shaped flap of skin and muscle slightly longer than the diameter of the limb. The Bone: Retract the skin flap up the limb. Saw through the Hollow Bone cleanly. Vessels: Tie off (ligate) the major blood vessels tightly with sinew. The Closure: Pull the prepared skin flap down over the sawed bone end. Sew it shut completely against the skin on the other side. This creates a sealed, living cushion over the bone. Requirements: Saw/Sharp knife, sinew, needle, Silver-Weave Moss (antiseptic), Ghost-Poppy (Anesthetic). Dice Roll: Success (12+): The stump heals cleanly. The seal holds. Patient survives with a functional pad for a prosthetic. Fail (5-11): "Tension Necrosis." The flap was too tight and the skin dies, exposing the bone. Requires re-operation. Crit Fail (1-4): Septicemia (blood poisoning). The seal wasn't tight enough, or bacteria was trapped inside. Patient dies within 3 days. 6. Emergency Cauterization (The Last Resort) Condition: Uncontrollable bleeding where there is no time for flaps, or the tissue is too mangled to save. Procedure: Applying a red-hot metal plate or stone directly to the wound to burn the vessels shut. Warning: This creates massive dead tissue which is a breeding ground for bacteria. Requirements: Fire, metal plate/stone. Dice Roll: Success (16+): Bleeding stops, but the patient is in critical condition. Requires heavy antibiotics (Specter-Lichen) to survive the inevitable infection. Fail (6-15): The shock stops the patient's heart (Air Sacs fail). Must perform CPR/Resuscitation immediately. Crit Fail (1-5): Patient dies of shock on the table, or the wound becomes gangrenous instantly.
